Finally: PS3 info and about time
Posted by: Elcoholic - 03-15-2006, 04:06 AM - Forum: Video Gaming - Replies (74)

The new facts:

PS3 launch worldwide in november.

Fully backwards compatible confirmed (again).

60 gig. HD standard included.!!!

FREE online service from day 1.

I was a little woried when I read november but then they added worldwide and I was happy again. Normaly november in Japan means november the next year in europe but lets see if they keep their word this time (they didn't with the psp). The free online and standard 60 GIG. HD will be a nice argument for the fanboys.

  Current quality of HK manufacturers...
Posted by: snowboarder - 03-14-2006, 05:48 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (4)

For awhile there was unanimous concensus about the pros and cons of the different HK manufacturers. For instance, MAC had a boat load of titles but got a bad rap for using DVD-5. MI was looked favorably upon until they started using TV rips as sources for new series'. Same concept for AV and so on.

After FX went adios I gravitated towards MI. In the beginning their subbed releases left much to be desired but lately they seem to be getting better...better video and higher quality subs. I'm watching Blood+ the series and Eureka 7 and the video looks good and I understand what's going on with the subs.

For those of you who deal in HKs, what's your opinion of the current state of the quality of HK releases?? In your opinion, who puts out the best sets, who's improved their quality, etc...have they all improved??

Later!!!

  People like bad anime
Posted by: swmaxxx - 03-14-2006, 04:42 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (55)

I have posted this before and I received so many quotes that I decided to make my own thread. And just so everyone is clear, I don't base my likes and dislikes on something as simple as "I think it?s really cool!" I critique anime just like a film critic would for a live action movie. Please give me your thoughts.

I've been reading all the people's "Favorite Anime" and I just have to say a few comments. Many of you say you are anime fans but, in fact, are nothing of the sort. I'm tired of all the people who say their favs are Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha. These shows are distinctively sorry excuses for anime. The makers of these anime are just in it for the money, and completely disregard good film techniques. For Kenshin, it's the lack of a strong plot that follows the shows entity (a bunch of mini plots). It is the exact opposite for Inuyasha. The plot never seems resolve. Thirdly, Yu Yu Hakusho has horrible voice actors. And to top it off, they all have an overly excessive episode list. People go straight to Adult Swim and see that an anime is playing and deem it an astounding anime. If you truly want to be an anime fan, then go out and find good anime for yourself. Don't have other people do it for you.

  TV pisses me off!
Posted by: Elcoholic - 03-14-2006, 02:57 AM - Forum: General Babble - Replies (20)

I don't know how it is in the states but over here, I'm going crazy with tv shows.

What i'm talking about is the fucking text messaging and tv games. Example, with soccor matches you get interupted dozens of times with text on screen saying you can text for man of the match (costs, 0.70 eur.) and in the break you get the presentor say the same like 4 times in 5 minutes. With formula 1 you get text and presentor trying to make you participate in some insanely easy prize question. Then there's Idol's which rakes in 2 million with text messaging, giving away 1 whole car. In the afternoon's and at night when nobody is supposed to be watching we have like 6 out of ten channels displaying hot chicks with super easy questions trying to make you call in with the answer. Ofcourse 1 in 1000 people gets through. I could go on and on.

This just pisses me off. There seems to be no show that get aired without some kind of text messaging scam attached to it. I can't belive people keep falling for it.

So, is it that bad in other parts of the world aswell or are we unique in this?

What do you guys and girls do and like besides anime??
Posted by: snowboarder - 03-12-2006, 06:35 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (39)

Not trying to be nosy...I'm just curious what everyone else here does outside of their anime hobby. I'll start with me then...

I'm one of the geezers here at 31 yrs old. I love snowboarding and have been doing it for about 10 yrs now. I go up to Mammoth Mtn prolly around 10-12 days per season. In addition to that I also race motorcycles...not for money but for enjoyment. I go to some club racing events every year and usually get creamed by the more experienced racers but I always have a blast. My racing rig is a hot rodded Ducati 916 with all the racing upgrades.
My 9-5 has me sitting in a dark suite working on what's called a Davinci color corrector and a Spirit Datacine. I do telecine for commercials and music videos. I really enjoy my job but sometimes the clients who are in the suite with me are real a**h***s. I've had the pleasure of doing some final color correction for DVD release of some anime movies and series. I sometimes do my own side projects of taking old anime titles and doing a complete color correction restoration for my own collection. I'll usually bump up my favorite anime to High Def and watch it at work on the 40in High Def monitor I have in my suite. I can't tell you how awesome it looks.

Well that's me. Big Grin

Anyone know what game this is?
Posted by: Yamasaki - 03-12-2006, 03:09 AM - Forum: Video Gaming - Replies (4)

A long time ago on my super nintendo, I had a game I called battle tetris (It was all in Japanese and never knew the real name). It was just like tetris except at the start of the game, you would pick 1 of 6 characters. While playing, random blocks would have a jewel in them and after making lines with the jewels, you would store them in your inventory (max of 4). At any point in the game, you could activate special powers specific to each character as long as you had at least one jewel stored (4 powers for each character). It's kind of hard to explain... I remember the characters as being a ninja, a princess, a jack-o-lantern, a witch doctor and... 2 others.

Well anyways my friend is a little bit of a puzzle game freak and she never heard of "battle tetris," and doesn't think it exists. I tried looking for it on the net and was hoping to download it for the pc. Any info would be great, thanks!

Does anyone know where I can get this? I found all 26 episodes subbed in Spanish, which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that there's no one seeding it, only leeching.

Posted by: Mystical Rose - 03-09-2006, 08:52 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (2)

I had finally got the Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne several weeks ago. I then started wondering what other rare titles might be out there. So...on to my question....is there Tokyo Mew Mew HK dvd set out anywhere? I know sort of strange question, but figured it would not hurt to ask.
