They should be tracking Paris Hilton & friends for heavy coke usage instead; not JJ for selling 3 HK sets. Sad world we live in.

umm it might be shocking but i don't think the canadian law enforcement can contral american rich girl habits, don't think anyone can.
besides i think jj sold a whole lot more than 3 sets. think i alone have bought more than that? or is there more information on what they have on jj than has been posted?

No he hasn't found out fully what he is being charged with. He knows he has 4 charges agaist him which when it sounds like it 2 of them are the same. Its stuff like Importing with Intent to fraud, Importing good over x$'s etc. Like said will have to wait till the prelim court hearing to find out everything.

In the states they usually only target bigger suppliers, most of them don't even care about the little guys.

How can he not know what he's being charged with?

See the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms S.10&11:

Quote:10. Everyone has the right on arrest or detention

a) to be informed promptly of the reasons therefor;
b) to retain and instruct counsel without delay and to be informed of that right; and
c) to have the validity of the detention determined by way of habeas corpus and to be released if the detention is not lawful.

11. Any person charged with an offence has the right

a) to be informed without unreasonable delay of the specific offence;
b) to be tried within a reasonable time;
c) not to be compelled to be a witness in proceedings against that person in respect of the offence;
d) to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal;
e) not to be denied reasonable bail without just cause;
f) except in the case of an offence under military law tried before a military tribunal, to the benefit of trial by jury where the maximum punishment for the offence is imprisonment for five years or a more severe punishment;
g) not to be found guilty on account of any act or omission unless, at the time of the act or omission, it constituted an offence under Canadian or international law or was criminal according to the general principles of law recognized by the community of nations;
h) if finally acquitted of the offence, not to be tried for it again and, if finally found guilty and punished for the offence, not to be tried or punished for it again; and
i) if found guilty of the offence and if the punishment for the offence has been varied between the time of commission and the time of sentencing, to the benefit of the lesser punishment.

JJ knows what he is being charged with. But he doesn't who was the reason behind it. Was it an American anime company that requested Canada to investigate and bring charges to JJ or was in just the canadian government trying to crack down on it.

Ah ok, that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clarifying.

So at the moment he just isn't aware as to if this was requested by someone else, or if the government did this of their own accord.

It's not as if that that really makes much of a difference, does it? I mean, either way, the government is ultimately responsible for making the decision in terms of wether or not to charge him.

Actually it kind of does. If it was only canadian government then its isolated to canada. If it was an american company pressuring the government then we might look forward / expect more of these issues to show up against other sellers.

Also he is doing pretty good in lite on the situation. Talked to him last night and saying that his lawyer is going to his preliminary hearing's or what ever they are called and said that it would be fast and that JJ wouldn't need to go. The lawyer is trying to get his travel restrictions removed too.

I haven't been here for ages and didn't expect to hear this. I bought a few sets from JJ he's a solid honest guy. Always gave what he said he was, in fact if I remember right one package didn't arrive to me and he gladly sent out a replacement and I live in the UK.

Okay so there may be laws against importing and all this crap but tons of sites import stuff, some small time guy trying to bring more anime to the world shouldn't be suffering.

Half the animes I love I would have never seen if it wasn't for JJ.

I hope he gets off the hook, because as far as I'm concerned he has done nothing wrong he is just a middle man.
