Your FIRST anime?

My first experience with anime was seeing really short clips of Ninja Scroll on Liquid Television. If you guys can remember, Liquid Television had the show Aeon Flux on it as well. It was a program airing on MTV a long time ago. I think around 1991 or 1992. I would watch LT just to catch those clips from Ninja Scroll, and I had to find out what it was. The clips lasted only a few minutes at most and were in Japanese.

That was my first experience with anime and it hooked me. Once they started showing some anime on the Sci Fi channel I was a anime fan for life. I started collecting R1s once I got a firm grip on what anime was all about.
If you are reading this, you obviously have nothing better to do with your time.

I can remember watching Speed Racer, Voltron, and all those oldies but didn't know they were anime. That's why I said the first actual ANIME and I knew it was Anime was Ranma. I also remember Liquid Television, back when MTV was for EVERYONE and not little 12 year old Teenie Bopper bullshit panzees...it was great. I also remember watching Green Legend Ran on SCI-FI saying..I HAVE TO OWN THIS!!!

Thanks for the clarification DO,

Where I did love Speed Racer in the 70s, I didn't realize these were japanese cartoons until I was watching Starblazers in the early 80s. That was definitely the show that had me hooked on anime. The biggest thing that stood out was that they weren't afraid of killing off characters or letting people get seriously injured. I mean, consequences for peoples actions. What were these people thinking? Couldn't they see from GI Joe that no matter how many bullets were shot that nobody should get hurt? <just a little sarcasm there>

My first experience with anime came from manga. My eldest brother used to collect comic books (years ago), and one day he brought home a book called Lone Wolf and Cub. My younger brother and I were never to touch his comic books, but while the cats away the mice will play. I probably read that issue 80 or so times. After that I was an addict. The first actual show that I started buying (watched all the "japanimation" I could that came on ex: Voltron) was ranma. I went out and bought a $30 dollar tape (two episodes dubbed) nearly every two weeks, and the rest is history.Big Grin

For me it would be a toss up between Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman or G-force which ever you prefer) and Force Five. These were shows that kept you on the edge of your seat either each day or each week. The animation was rough but captivating and the characters were imagination builders. If only to relive those days.

Well, the first anime that really caught my interest and made me want to see other anime was JoJo's Bizarre Adventure...I saw a fansubbed copy that a friend let me borrow. Berserk helped to strengthen that interest by many fold.

The anime that got me hooked, was Battle Angel. I saw it for the first time when I was a junior in high school. God that seems like soooo long ago, but after that I just couldn't get enough. I've been watching anime ever since. Big Grin

some times it seems like it was too long ago...lol. There was just some thing about battle angel that had always made me say that it's one of the very best that I have seen. It's weird though, it's been around a long time and it seems like not that many people have seen it. I am always asking my friends that are into anime if they've watched it, and I always get a no. SO if you are reading this, and you haven't watched Battle Angel, then go get it. You won't be sorry Smile
