Anyone here still buy HK Anime DVDs?
Posted by: garritynet - 09-20-2008, 01:11 AM - Forum: General Babble - Replies (13)

Hey guys, long time no see.

Its been awhile and now that the store is closed I don't know where to buy dvds. Anyone buy from a trust worthy store that has as nice a selection, as good prices and as quick shipping as Import Anime used too?

Where do you buy your DVDs these days?

  Blu-Ray?
Posted by: LordMelkor - 05-17-2008, 03:49 AM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (2)

Are the HK companies going to transition to Blu-Ray ever? If not for HD content, then for ordinary DVD material... Since a Blu-Ray disk can hold up to ~50 GB which is like 5 DVDs so concieveably 1 disk could hold an entire series with minimal additional compression, unlike the heavy additional compression they undergo to be fit onto a 3-disk set.

Rumors, Thoughts, Speculation?

  New import packaging for reviews.
Posted by: beans_etc - 03-26-2008, 03:20 PM - Forum: Website Issues/Suggestions - Replies (2)

Do any of the review pages ever get updated with the newest packaging images and boxes? I was unable to find a review for the Sailor Moon season imports I just bought and I'm not even sure who made these ones or if they're just re-released MAC versions. (I can't find a logo anywhere on the box or DVDs.)

Same with the Cardcaptor Sakura import reviews, there's new packaging and it's very confusing trying to figure out which one you have or are trying to order.

Help with some Sailor Moon imports~
Posted by: beans_etc - 03-26-2008, 11:46 AM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (6)

Hey all, yesterday I received an order I'd made on shopanimedvd.com for the entire series of Sailor Moon (all five season and the three movies) and was dismayed to discover that 4 out of the 5 boxsets they sent me did not match the pictures they advertised on the site. I spent a long time before I put in the order researching which import version was the best, so I'm pretty chapped that I didn't get the ones I thought I was getting.

http://www.shopanimedvd.com/advanced_sea...on&x=0&y=0

These are the ones I thought I was getting, advertised as being manufactured by MAC. (The five sets on the bottom of the page, plus the Sailor Stars season at the top of the page. The season 1 boxset is the only one that came through as advertised.)

Instead, the boxsets I received look like this (grabbing pics from other sites where I find them):

Sailor Moon R
http://www.animecollector.com/cgi-bin/buy?a0=03238

Sailor Moon S
http://www.animecollector.com/cgi-bin/buy?a0=02815

Sailor Moon Super S
http://www.animecollector.com/cgi-bin/buy?a0=03168

Movie Trilogy
http://import-anime.com/screenshots.php?...em_id=4774

So I'm wondering, are these simply the new MAC packaging or are they completely different import versions? I've looked through import-anime.com and it doesn't seem to have reviews on many of the version that I have, so I don't know who made them or what they're like compared to the other ones.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all~

Import-Anime.com has been around for over 5 years, and since the exciting developments of "Adventures of JunkieJoe and the RCMP"™ (a book to be writen at a later date :lolSmile there hasn't been many updates but it still stayed online, and alot has been going on behind the scenes in the last few months, IA is in the works of a total overhaul that will not only make it one of the best anime communities on the net, it will be THE place, we've raised the bar on HK community with our site before, now we'll raise the bar with anime community in general!

Stay tuned for more updates and developments!

  HK Anime Stores
Posted by: darkanx - 01-21-2008, 01:29 AM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (3)

I got a PM asking me where I shop for my anime these days. I figured I might as well share that info with everyone here since this site no longer has a store. I will remove this if anyone has objections.

kcdvd dot com :: is the best place currently. Standard prices, excellent shipping speed and cost. They have a huge 50% off sale a few times a year. Definitely the time to buy a lot from them.

sphiatt dot com :: is the cheapest place, they always run sales of 30-50 percent off. They have crappy service tho. Emails can take a few days to be answered. Shipping is average, but if they are out of something they will not notify you and just delay your order till it comes in or mail half of it out if its big and mail the rest later. I hear some people complain they often send the wrong sets, but I have never had that problem. They did forget a set once. If you have a problem, call them, its the only way to handle it fast. As long as your patient with them, they are cheep and decent. I use them often.

anime-niacs dot com (remove the dash, wordfilter) :: is a classic source. Again, Average prices and shipping. Excellent customer service.

anotherheaven dot biz :: is a little more expensive, but highly reliable. Use coupon code "arcticnightfall" for 40% off. It sounds like a lot, but usually that just puts you at average or a bit under average price. He has sales often but changes the prices storewide. The best time to order from him is to wait until he has a decent sale price, then use the coupon.

sundevildvd dot com :: all arround average shop. I do think this is the only place that still has free shipping, which is a big plus if you order only one set at a time. I havn't ordered from them in a while, so can't say for sure.

These are my main sources. If anyone knows of any other good ones, please list them here.
