I only see this dark covered on on ebay
http://import-anime.com/index.php?page=v...em_id=1344

from the reviews, the first one seems better, and i think the first one has remastered video too! but no one sells that version on ebay...

  Woot for Kung Fu Hustle.

I really liked this movie. I mean A LOT. It is so hard to point out a part I liked best because of the fact that is a comedy and a tradition kung fu movie, that tell the same above average story, and splicing them together with no ugly seams. I say it is the best movie to come from another country to U.S. screens in a long time. I recommend it to every one who just wants to go to a movie and enjoy your self. It ain?t deep, but depth is overrated.

  eBay and some weird sets
Posted by: pill - 04-22-2005, 09:33 AM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (15)

First of all, hi to everyone.

Since it's my first post on here, I was very cautious and watched the sticky animation about posting and starting useless threads with nothing to say, just to be sure I wouldn't be nuked for duplicating an existing thread. But I think I'm good to go now.

I entered the world of HK so-called *imports* anime sets because I live in France, and honestly, there are some things you simply can not get otherwise. And no, i'm not fluent in japanese, so I wont get jap R2 w/o english subs.

Of course I was wondering if I could somehow get legit stuff, without losing the english subs, and most of the time it's either 20 times the boot price, censored, or incomplete. So I simply had a go at some stuff I found on eBay, just to see what engrish and pixelisation were all about. Here is the summary of the journey:

---

-Fist Of The North Star:
24 DVDs, MI (20 for original (part 1, 2 and 3), 3 for Shin, 1 for movie)

--Intro:
Couldn't find a review of this on IA, nor on the entire www (though there must be a reason this MI set is larger that the 17 one that comprises parts 1, 2 and 3 as well) so it was a random hit.

--The Set:
2 boxes, huge (i mean HUGE) sleeves containing the DVDs (box1: 14, box2: 10), hilarious MEPG2 typo on the outside of the box, the funny NO COPY logo too. Looks cheap, but not THAT cheap.

--The Content:
It has the engrish (understandable, yet engrish), it has pixels (a fair amount of them in moving scenes, looks like a cheap .rm at times), but it's all of the Fist of the North Star, and it's what I wanted to get, now i finally got it ($100 incl. S/H, that was fair, don't you think?)

---

-Ranma 1/2:
22 DVDs (161 eps), AC/MI

--Intro:
As for the Fist set, i couldn't find a review of this on IA, nor on the entire www. I went random on that one too.

--The Set:
Exact same look and feel that the Fist, same packaging, same stuff. 2 boxes, the HUGE sleeves too (box1: 12, box2: 10), MEPG2 typo, NO COPY logo too. Average cheapness.

--The Content:
It has the engrish (understandable, yet engrish, and sometimes in the middle looks completely incoherent), it has pixels too, (less that the Fist, though, let's say a higher quality .rm feel, but then again, all the Ranma for $80 incl. S/H, that was fair I think (comments welcome).

---

-Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO):
10 DVDs (yes 10 like the legit boxset, 43 eps), unknown company

--Intro:
This looked damn legit, you can find a picture of this one there: http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/youyou96d/gto12.jpg

--The Set:
As i said, it's split in 2 sets, looks good (ahhh, gatefolds), and it would take a HK knowledge to point the finger at this one and say BOOT!

--The Content:
Has chinese and cantonese audio, added to the japanese one. the Dolby logo looks telesynced, so it scared me at first, but the rest looks like a DVD rip. It has the infamous engrish (at some rare times, it's really higher quality subs here) but what will for sure annoy me soon is the chinese names, it's confusing if you've already seen the anime w/ japanese names , it has some rare pixels, but all in all looks really good. All of this for $38 incl. S/H, I guess I will have to live with this chinese to english translation.

---

Conclusion:
I kinda liked this journey into HK imports land, with its typos and pixels. I will for sure visit again Wink

  fansub question
Posted by: Cyrus - 04-22-2005, 01:37 AM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (22)

I'm one of those people that are all about share the love so ussually if something is cheap or sometimes even free im like whatever it's not a big deal like if you download the good songs on an album which it just so happens there are only 2 and the rest is filler then go ahead. But if it has all good songs go get it used for 5 bucks. Thats the kinda guy i am but i was wonderin.....

When you download fansubs do you just download ones that are not out yet ussually or ones that you can't get in HK or do you download then and buy HK of them later or do you not buy HK at all?

cus i think r1 prices are crazy and HK are on the mark but to just download fansubs and never buy HK's it just doesen't seem right to me

Give me your thoughts please Big Grin

oh and the reason i don't think it is right is because.... If you wanna dl the fansubbs of some really bad anime that is pretty much the quality of most american cartoons (just plain not worth buying ever sorta thing) then it's not a problem

But for an anime like neon genesis evangelion or Cowboy bebop i just think they deserve the respect of being bought when they are HK of course so.... r1 is always too expensive for the popular stuff

Yeah thats all

  nostalgic rpg's
Posted by: Cyrus - 04-22-2005, 01:31 AM - Forum: Video Gaming - Replies (42)

so yeah i have been playing secret of evermore and i've been noticing the somewhat cheesy dialog and the way it's kinda corney but in a good way and i was wondering who prefers the old kinda snes rpg dialog and style to the newer ones. It's almost like the newer rpg's just don't have the heart of the old ones and it's cool that the older ones have that childish yet mature sorta style mixed in instead of the newer ones always being serious and more realistic.

let me know

personally i dig it when the cleche's are all around the corner lol who knows maybe it's just cus i havn't played them in a while

Anyone played this game yet? Didn't even realize it was coming out anytime soon until I saw it at best buy today. Last I heard the game was abandoned then later resumed by someone else...

Doesn't exactly make me wanna run out and buy it.

If you have played Final Fantasy VI(3 in the States) and have about 40 minutes to kill, you might find this amusing.
