Check out this article. Its about Cashan's store and the rival anime store up the road who wants to close him down. Cashan has already had the fbi come by but its pretty obvious that this is a grey area and the US authorities can't do much about it.

The anime business couldn't afford to stay alive if they charged as much as japan does for things. I had no idea how much it costs to import. Found this when digging around for info on the new hellsing ova series.

YTV has announced in their anime bulletin that Fullmetal Alchemist will premiere Friday, March 3 at 10pm

I'm afraid of the heavy editing in this one, oh well, we'll just have to see it to believe it

Sooooooooooo, what have you people seen and do you recommend it.

I've seen so many movies lately with the internet flooding with screeners for the oscars.

Good night and good luck. The best acting I've seen in years. It follows the makers of a talkshow in (I think) the 60's when the 'threat' of communism ruled people's lives. Its about a senator abbusing this threat and the news show that unmasks him for what he is trying to do. I have a hard time describing why the acting from the show host is so good but the way he looks at the camera and the way he 'talks to the people is really intense. Its political so not for everyone but i think it gives a good picture of the government and state of the US in those times.

Syriana: Another movie made by George Clooney's production company (good night and good luck is also made by them). Its about the oil culture and relationship between the US government and the middle east. Its not an attack at the current government at all but it shows some things that happen because of oil. Telling more would spoil it. Its a very slow movie but very interesting.

Waiting: For the american pie fans. Just good teenage fun movie full of pranks and weird charecters. I can guarantee you'll laugh over this movie. Best comedy I've seen in a long time. Its about the group of bored people who work in a restuarant. There's about 10 workers featured in the movie and each charecter is as memorable and crazy as the next.

Saw 2: If you've seen the first you know what to expect. Its more of the same but with even more gruesome traps. If you can keep your eyes on the screen for the entire movie without looking away atleast a few times your my new hero. Its about a group of people who wake up in a house with no easy escape and they have to figure out puzzles to get to the exit. If the puzzle fails prepare for some gory stuff. Together with the original these are the best horror/thriller movies of past years for me. If you can handle gore you MUST see atleast the first one.

Going to watch Zathura this weekend (by the makers of Jumanji).

So, NEXT!

  DVD players
Posted by: Zagatto - 02-10-2006, 05:45 AM - Forum: General Babble - Replies (13)

About two years ago I bought my Toshiba DVD player after two years of service from my Panasonic 5 disc rotary player. The Toshiba gave up the ghost last month so I bought one of those $40 no name (well... Kosch was the brand name... close enough) and plugged it in so I wouldn't miss out on my DVD viewing pleasure.

The Kosch worked well enough to start with. It even played .avi files which I thought was a pretty cool bonus. After about one month of use however, it started overheating and locking up part way through movies and music discs.

Even though it looks like you're saving money, stay away from those cheap @ss DVD players out there. Stick with name brands that have better warranties if you don't want to go through the hassle of replacing your player too often.

Future Shop was kind enough to give me a full refund on my defective DVD player towards a brand new LG player (I'm still getting used to the idea that LG is a good brand now) that also has the .avi feature. So far things seem to be working quite well. The only thing that seems cheap about it is the loading tray seems rather flimsy. At least it loads quickly and is very quiet when playing.

I do miss having the controls on the front of the DVD player like my Toshiba had. That was a nice feature that saved me from hunting for the remote on those times when my daughter feels like hiding it.

OMG!!! Today is the worst day of the year so far in terms of snow and cold. It is also the worst storm I have ever driven in by like 15 times. I saw more cars in the ditch than I did on the road, and at one point, there were 11 cars and a Semi all over the high way. I had to stop just to figure out what the hell was going on. Some of the people were stopped to help and other because they were too scared to continue. It was crazy. Ended up driving from shoulder to shoulder some times to get around all the crap. I think classes should have been canceled today because I here this from everyone else who has showed up as well.
