  Direction of game music
Posted by: Ryujin - 12-03-2004, 03:03 PM - Forum: Video Gaming - Replies (22)

I have always been a big fan of game music, and I think that some of my favourite musics ever are from video games. But lately I have noticed a trend that most game music these days is tending to lean in the ambient direction, which tends to not have any specific melody or memorability.

Now don't get me wrong, some scenes in some games and some games full stop need to have ambient music. But there are certain games that would be alot better if the music was better.

I'm not saying I want a super repetative tune that repeats the same thing every 5 seconds either. I just think that the games industry in maybe some miss-concieved rush to try and sound like movie soundtracks has lost its way somewhat.

So I think that game music is going in the wrong direction and I would prefere more catchy tunes with a good melody in future, instead of the forgettable ambient tunes that everyone seems to want to do these days.

What do you think?

  "Make Love not Spam"
Posted by: hbk101 - 12-02-2004, 02:35 PM - Forum: General Babble - Replies (6)

A new weapon against spammers. It's about time someone does something about these spamming con artists. Maybe we all should sign up for this.

CNN reports:
At the risk of breaching Internet civility, Lycos Europe is offering computer-users a weapon against spam-spewing servers: a screen-saver program that automatically hits the offenders with data to slow them down.

Around 65,000 people already signed up for the offensive, called "Make Love not Spam" before Tuesday's official launch on a website by the same name, the company said. It is urging its 22 million users to download the screen-saver, but says anyone with a computer is welcome to it.

The company insists the technique is legal -- it says the culprit servers are simply choked a bit, not completely asphyxiated -- and dismissed concerns that computers which ping servers blamed for unwanted Internet traffic are further clogging the world's digital pipeline.

The program activates whenever a computer equipped with it goes into standby mode, and sends so-called HTTP get-requests to what Lycos says are servers known to generate unsolicited e-mails. When done en masse, this eats up precious bandwidth, causing the servers to overload and slow down, the company said.

  What is Most Important?
Posted by: multipak - 12-02-2004, 01:53 AM - Forum: General Babble - Replies (1)

In this sad reality that we live in, abstract terms like honor, courage, and respect can so easily be forgotten. I would like to know how many people would be concerned about honor after they haven?t had a meal for several days. I think most people will resort to stealing or begging if there are no other means available.

I, for one, used to believe in justice, but after having worked in competitive work environments for a while, my perspective changed. People lie, cheat, and deceive to advance. At the end, I noticed that more often than not, ones who cheat are the ones who advance further than those who play honorably. For example, I know a professor in college who was highly incompetent. Many of his students complained about him. He did a lousy research. The consensus was that he wouldn?t get tenure. He got a wind of it and threatened the college with a bogus lawsuit with a made-up story. The college ended up giving him the tenure and forced another good professor to retire to save money. Justice? Hardly.

For now, I have to say the most important thing in life is health. Once upon a time, I hurt my ankle playing sports and couldn?t walk properly for a year. It was hard to enjoy anything. Without good health, the quality of one?s life will suffer.

Azumanga Daioh - FX DVD Boxset???
Posted by: dreamee - 12-01-2004, 07:32 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (11)

What's up guys?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if FX will be releasing an Azumanga
DVD boxset any time soon? I really need to know, because I'd like to
wait it out to get this one (FX is always the best of course), but if not,
I guess I'll just buy the one that's in stock now.

Hope to hear from someone soon!
