D&R and EOE : Sometimes, some scene were little darker than usual and there was some bluriness/fuzziness during the flashback. Overall, nice graphic.
Audio:
No complaint. I like the ending song of Death of Evangelion

I wonder why they didn't put the End of Evangelion episode in the TV series. Episode 25 (45 minutes) and 26 (45 minutes) were way better than those from the TV version. The ending made a lot of sense to me. The best scene in the movie was the fight between Asuka and the other 9 EVA, that's was awseome to see, poor Unit 2 Bonne appétit. The ending may confuse some people, so listen to it carefully. Death is the summary of the 24 episodes of the EVA TV (mostly about how the EVA destroyed each angels) and Rebirth is the first 30 minutes of End Of Evangelion Overall, D&R was okay but EOE was better than I expected, lots of action scene especially during the EVA fight, Nerv headquarters being invaded by the army had some very bloody scene. HIGHLY RECOMMANDED

this is a very beautiful movie so it is really hard to complain about anything. the plot is very very confusing but that is expected in evangelion.

This set is okay, all in all. Especially for an HK set. :^/ Video-- (4/5) Well, it's not GREAT, but it's better than some of the other stuff that I own. *_* Audio-- (5/5) This is one of the best aspects of this dvd. It's high on my best audio list. Subtitles-- (3/5) Pretty mediocre. :^/ Better than other stuff (i.e. Big O, Angel Sanctuary), but still not wonderful. Very tolerable, since the movie is so awesome. ^_^ Content-- (5/5) This is a very awesome movie. It is one of my favorite MOVIES of all time. I would suggest this dvd to any hardcore EVA fan, and even softcore ones! :^P

****EDIT**** I bought the MI/AC version of the movies, and the AS is in fact a rip of the MI/AC set. Howeber, AS managed to squeez both movies onto a single DVD, wit a lot more compression. I can't remember the actual size of the AS DVD, but the MI/AC set has 2 DVDs at about 4.2 Gigs per DVD, so that means that the Video will definately look better, and the audio sounds better as well. All in All, the MI/AC set is the set worth getting. You can read my review, and see my pics for the AC/MI set on this review site as well. ****EDIT**** I thought that there could have been a lot of work done to make this a lot better (like putting the movie onto a DVD-9 instead of a DVD-5). As a whole the movie is really good looking, but on closer inspection there are quite a few blemishes. Video - 3/5 The video looks a little too compressed. There are macroblocks everywhere. Some scenes will look absolutely fabulous, and then the next scene will look terrible. There are problems in areas with a lot of red, and the red pool in Heart bleeds a lot. Other than that the video is ok, there is some break up and bluriness here and there (and I think the bluriness is supposed to be there), but over all watchable. Audio - 3/5 The Audio was all there. There wasn't any break up of any sort, but the music was mixed too loud, so it distorts when it's really loud, or there is high pitched noises. I couldn't get my setup or my head phones not to get the distorting noise without playing the movie really quiet. But since the dostortion was the only real problem, I don't take any more than I already did off. Subs - 4/5 Standard HK fare. The subs are understandable over all, but in some cases kinda deviate from what the actual meaning is, but on the whole, there aren't too many mistakes. As a whole the movie was only OK. From what I hear the MI/AC version is a lot better (which is why I sold my current set and bought that one), So the decision is up to you right now, I will post later and tell you whether or not this version compares. edited by kakomu on 07 Jun 2002 8:31 pm edited by kakomu on 25 Jul 2002 12:41 pm

Video: Its an OK Laserdisc Transfer, sometimes it gets blocky on 'wild' scenes. Too bad they encoded the 2 movies into less then 3GB !!! But still it looks Ok, suprisingly good for 2 movies on 1 disc, but defenatly not perfect. 3/5 Audio: Sounds OK, no de-sync (I believe AS' 2 Disc version has a few secs de-sync on Death:Rebirth). There's a little hum in the back, but nothing to worry about 4/5 Subs: They are OK HK originals. Sometimes they screw up the names (Sjinshi, Asksa, stuff like that), also a little fast reading at times, and they run of the screen a few times, but overall the're pretty good, and very understandable. It should be noted that the subs on Death:Rebirth are better then EoEs, there are less typo's and fast reading. 3/5 I recommend, no correction, I DEMAND everyone to buy Manga's version when out (Not bootleg, R1 I mean ;)), because it's supposed to have some good extras! (Red Cross book etc.). It will also have better subs (likely), video and audio. Lets hope they can do their work! Overal for this set : 3.5/5 It's a save buy, defenatly if you take that the're 2 movies on 1 disc. I wan't really dissapointed, neither stunned.
