Video was on the whole very good. Pixallation was almost non existant and only saw very, very minor cases of it on about three occaisions. There was about 1/2 a second of macro blocking during the last episode of the 4th disc and every now and then there was a kind of artefact between scene changes. But all these things were very, very insignificant and didn't detract from the video at all.
Audio:
As said in previous reviews the sound was somewhat distorted and always sounded like it was recorded too loud. It was was played at a normal/lowish volume it sounded alright, but any louder and the distortion became quite noticeable. Otherwise it was okay and had quite a few stereo effects during the battle scenes.

An excellent series, it was a tradgey that this was cut short, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened in the extra 10 episodes. But despite the early finish the series has a very good and comprehensible ending. The Gundam and mobile suit designs are excellent and there is some good character development on the main characters. A very enjoyable and thoroughly recommended mech series that hooks in from the very beginning, there is never a dull moment in After War Gundam X!!

Finished this sometime ago, here's my review... Video Excellent,no problems at all Audio This is somewhat of a issue, on my PS2 the audio sounds messed up-as if the volume was turned up too high, however on my Toshiba DVD player and a built-in player I tried it on, there were no problems. Hmm, it's probably my PS2..plays the audio with no problems on the other players I tried. Subtitles Very good subs, most are timed very well- however the timing is bad for some of the episodes, some lines being ahead or behind the actual spoken dialouge-aside from that,no big errors. Again I don't know any chinese so I can't judge the subs for those. Menu IT shows the Gundam Airmaster and Leopard with the characters who pilot them standing in front of them, with the gundam X logo at the top(same for every disc, and this is the same art that is used for where disc one is placed) A cool effect is that the Gundam eyes light up when the menu first appears. Anyway it seems to me that the menu see a little too bright, and it's hard to see the menu titles unless you lower the brightness all the way down-this mainly due to the fact the menu titles are all in white, except for the first letters-which are in big blue capital letters.First Option is Play, second one is episode select, and finally the 3rd one is subtitle select. The Episode select screen has video running in boxes for each episode, which is really nice. When you select one it goes directly to the beginning of the episode, the prelude sequence and opening that come before are skipped entirely. All in all a interesting take on Gundam, too bad it was cut down 49 episodes to 39. I have a feeling that it would have been better if not for that, still I liked the story-It ended nicely enough.:) Note:I Added screenshots,as well as one shot of the episode selection menu. You'll see "pause" in most of the SSs' and "step" in two of them, that's because whenever I use those options on my player, it sticks on the screen:( Took some pics of the box, front and back-and the inside of the box as well so you can see what it looks like:) edited by DarkonOmega on 17 Aug 2002 1:45 pm

What can I say that Asuka or Wing Zero didn't say? Obviously LD video, excellent subs, well "OK" audio. For just a quick review for those on the run, if you want to experience the One Year War again with a what if slapped on it, this is a good series. The First 5 minutes of episode 1 will leave you hooked, seeing the colonies rain down on Earth is very eerie. Another quality release comparable to G Gundam.

Ahhh one of my favorite Gundam series. The problem with Gundam that always drags it down is that since the original Gundam and Zeta, each following chapter basically was a repeat of these. There lacks lots of originality in Gundam and that is the weakest aspect of the franchise. I enjoy Gundam, but I can't put them in very high regard. Gundam is always deep into war and goes over the same themes. Gundam X is more like an adventure anime as the main cast is a group of Vultures/Pirates who travel around and get in trouble. This series is more episodic than normal Gundam but there is a main plot that underlies the whole thing. Gundam X was sadly only the second Gundam series to ever get cancelled due to low ratings, same as the original. But the creators did no just toss away the show, they do bring it all to an end and its a decent ending, it obviously could have been better and was lacking, but it comes to a satisfying end. Show could have been alot better if they let it have the 10 more episodes it probably would have gotten like most Gundam series. Show is alot more fun and not so dark and serious as other Gundam shows, but its not as silly as Gundam ZZ either. As for the HK set: Video: Excellent video here. No R2's are out for this so this is a LD rip for sure. Everything looks good, this show has some of the best animation in a Gundam TV series only bested by the really slick Turn A Gundam. I was pleased with how MI spread 39 episodes onto 5 discs and not 4 discs like you would expect from there past releases. Show holds up well throughout with only minor pixelation in some scenes. Really good stuff! Audio: Decent audio, its not horrible but has a very crappy problem and that is the the audio is screwed up. The audio is way to loud on this set. Apparently the center channel is WAY to high compared to the rest. I had my surround pretty low level and when I pushed play I jumped from how freakin loud this crap was. The surround is ok, but the center is so high that it screws up the audio. The sound because of it is not very clear. If you got a regular speaker on a TV it wont be a huge problem, but it is still WAY to loud. I have to play the show at a lower volume level and because of that the center speaker takes front stage while the side and rear speakers are to low. Had to screw with my setting and put down the center channel and put up the rear speakers. Subs: Ahhh thank goodness the whole show was fansubbed so this show has some excellent subs. If you remember the G Gundam set, then this is comparable. I would say these subs are better than G Gundam, and they don't got any big problems like G Gundam had for one episode so far. There are errors here and there from spelling mistakes and some strange formatting, but it still is really great! And for those wondering yes everything is here. In the AV and AS sets the openings were cut and those openings in Gundam X contain plot in them so those sets cut out important details! Those sets are total trash, this set totally rocks. This is about the same quality as the G Gundam set, and maybe even better. Good stuff. edited by AsukaXIkari on 11 Mar 2002 11:24 am

The MI (Manga Inc, formally AC or Anime Cartoon) version of Gundam X went on sale on ebay and other HK DVD selling sites last week. I thought it would be beneficial to write a review about the quality of the set, so that those interested in getting the series will know which set to get, and which set not to get. The Basics: 5 DVD?s Disk 1 = Episodes 1-9 Disk 2 = Episodes 10-18 Disk 3 = Episodes 19-27 Disk 4 = Episodes 28-36 Disk 5 = Episodes 37-39 I would have thought that an 8,8,8,8,7 arrangement would have made more sense. I also thought that adding extras on the 5th disk with all of the space available would have been a good idea with the arrangement used, we didn?t get either but it?s no big deal. The main menu on every disk was the same, with the image of the first disk in the background. The three options you get on the main menu are the obvious ones; play, subtitles, and chapter select. When you select play, the little logo spins, that?s all the animation you get on that menu. The chapter select menu has running video in each episode box, which is great for a HK set. One of the major improvements over the AS and AV sets is that the opening and ending sequences are included with every episode. Missing the opening sequence was terrible with the AS and AV versions, because you lost a minute or two of the show from every episode. The opening and ending songs don?t have English subtitles. In the part of episode nine before the opening song, English subtitles for the opening song ran instead of the character text, which made for a rather humerus moment where it looked like the characters were singing the song and not saying their proper lines. Text about MI/AC is added to the opening song in every episode. It stays on the screen for around ten seconds and then disappears. Also, in every episode, the green M logo for MI appears in the top corner at the beginning of the first half of the episode for about ten seconds and then disappears. The same thing happens in the beginning of the second half as well. Audio/Video: Both audio and video were great for this set, very high quality in both aspects. There was one very minor problem. On the first three disks, everything froze for a second or two about halfway through, and then continued without skipping anything. This was probably due to the disk changing layers. If it happened on the fourth disk it must have been on a black screen because I didn?t notice it. That?s about it, I?m not like those pros that bitch about the slightest error in the audio and video. It looked good to me, and it sounded good to me, case closed! Subtitles: The other major problem with the AS and AV sets was that the subtitles were horrible on those sets. That?s not the case with this set, these subs are fansub quality. In some cases, the subs were better than those on my fansubs, since another (and better) fansub source was used. The text is also in a nice bold white color, so it?s easy to read. My fansubs had a habit of having different colors for the text as they went along. There were a couple minor problems with the way the subtitles were presented however. First of all, on some parts of the set, some lines of text would have a question mark at the end of it whether it belonged there or not. This mainly happened on disks one and three, but it was easy to ignore, and it didn?t go on for long. Another problem was that the text would go off the screen at times. This happened every now and then until about halfway through disk three, where the problem almost disappeared. The text was never off the screen for disk four, and was rarely off the screen for disk five. The main problem was the timing problem. Most of the time the text ran perfectly, but at times it would be behind or ahead of the current text. At other times, they would have text for two different people on the same screen. It wasn?t that confusing to me since I?ve seen the series at least six times all the way through, but it may confuse someone new to the series a little. Even with these minor problems, this is still the best HK set that I have ever seen subtitle wise. The grammar was great, and the spelling was great, NO ENGRISH! The only errors came when the first letter of a word would be missing, and this almost never happened. Conclusion: First of all, I?m glad that I got this set from florachanxxx. I won the auction last Monday night, and the set got to me (from HK) on that Friday afternoon. Thanks Flora! This is one of the best HK DVD sets on the market, and it is the best version of Gundam X that you?re going to get until the Bandai R1 releases a few years from now. There might be some minor errors and no extras, but if you?re a fan of Gundam X, then this is the set to get. When searching for the set, beware, do not buy the AS or AV versions of the set, you?ll be in a world of hurt if you do. Look for the green M logo on the box, and you?ll be in good shape. I hope that this review helped everyone, thank you for taking the time to read it.
