Kinda pretty much what I said on Z Gundam, not good resolution, but however, the colors seem a whole lot brighter. But because of the nature of the series in opposite to Z Gundam, I guess the slight change in use of color is sort of symbolic in that sense in my opinion. However, it is a little grainy but I wouldn't say it's pixalated nor will it ruin your viewing experiences.
Audio:
Audible, the music is more cheesy and the first ending them I thought blowed.

Well, it's a complete opposite of Z Gundam, but you kinda have to watch this series in order to finish Z Gundam itself. The first half relies more on the slapstick childish comedy and it eventually gets a little darker and more action packed in the latter half.

I thought the video was very good. The only episode that looked crappy was the first one, but it doesnt really matter since it is just a recap of what happened in Gundam Z. No problems here.
Audio:
I dont have a big audio setup but I didn't notice any problems.

This is a review for the 6 disc version of Gundam ZZ (MI). The old one was 5 discs and it had very horrible subs. I know cuz I used to own it. This was an ok series but does not come close to Gundam Z. Also make sure you watch Gundam 0079 and Gundam Z before watching this one.

Video - 3.5/5 --------------------------- Perfectly fine for the majority of people, some problems although nothing major. The gripe about the first episode is a little overdone but it does look bad next to the following episodes. I found the video to be generally fine and I'd feel that any other comment would be a lie. Sound - 4/5 --------------------------- No problems at all, it sounds consistant with no annoying hum, distortion or general weirdness. The sound level is just about right and as mentioned is in mono, as it was originally recorded. Subtitles - 3/5 --------------------------- Not the worst I've seen, far from it, but not the best either. Suffers some little mess-ups with timing and sometimes runs off the screen. Names are hit and miss, although far better than the fansub I used to own where they decided to make up every name they didn't understand. A safe buy, I can't see any reason to doubt it. I enjoyed Gundam ZZ although it wasn't as good as Gundam Z and Gundam 0079. Still, any Gundam fan has to see it and this is the set to do so with.

This is a rip of the AV version. I do recommend this MI version though, why? Because the package and covers kick serious ass. The content is the same, and the price is the same basically. I highly recommend this one just because that great packaging. The video: Well this is kinda flaky. The first episode has this strange problem that well.... it SUCKS. The first episode is god awful, worst I've seen on an HK set. Looks like a 5th generation tape of it or some bad VCD. Its very choppy in the frame rate as well. The good thing though is that the first episode has no story. Its just a recap and preview of the show so you really don't have to worry here as the video sucks on something you would want to skip anyways. For the rest of the set the video is pretty good. It has to be LD rip since VHS would definately look like crap. Now is it that great looking? Not really, its kinda murky but not bad. Some scenes are better than others, also bit rates don't seem to great as high motion scenes send this into a mess of pixels. It could be the source of the video being so old, which is a definate possibility since this show is quite old. Not horrible, but not that great. The Audio: No problems here really, its quite good, but its mono *shrug*. Its an old show so what? The Subs: Well these are hit and miss. The translation isn't bad, its pretty good but there are some problems. First main problem, is timing. The timing floats here as the subs are not concrete at all. The timing seems to just float as they sometimes are too fast, sometimes they lag, and sometimes they come to slow. Its never really consistent. Nothing horrible but it does get irritating in a few episodes. In about 2 or 3 episodes the subs lag for about a second each for parts of the episodes for example. Seen worse of course, but this is irritating at times. Another problem that really bugged me, the subs seem to go offscreen WAY to much. It happens quite a bit, but this set has it happen more than normal. To some this is nothing, but to lose a whole word sometimes jsut sucks ass. Names.... well they go from good to horribly wrong. The names just constantly fluctuate and aren't consistent which blows. Most of the characters names are correct, but also incorrect in spelling or they make mistakes on part of the name. The main character has his first name correct mostly, but his last name is wrong. Some names are just completely wrong like Bright is Polado hehe. But the names do change as spellings at times get better or get fixed just to get wrong again later. Sometimes the names get worse and then get better. For technical names, the exact same as the character names. Some are dead on, and then suddenly they are all wrong. Core Fighter one episodes maybe, then for the rest its nuclear fighter. Laser sword for beam saber and such, stuff like that. Some are just completely wrong. Mobile Suit names are usually CLOSE, but most of the time wrong. Psycho Gundam is Heavy Gundam for example :) . Lots of errors in names, and like before the names seem to change frequently. Now the subs aren't horrible, these are actually quite good for HK originals, and they make ALOT of sense. Never does it really get that confusing, and if you've seen gundam then that helps know what they are seeing. Being a Gundam nut I was very used to what was being said. I kinda wrote alot about the subs, but I was quite critical here since the subs were not normal here and had a fluctuation problem. You can watch and fully understand this, but I must note...... *NOTE* new update. The subs in the later episodes seem to get worse. Its not horribly wrong but the english is pretty bad in the later episodes. Names constantly fluctuate as normal but at times it gets harder to understand. At times the subs seem spot on but then they get really screwy and the translations are really weird. Zeon/Zion becomes self protection? It seems like there are 10 people working on the same script. Lots of errors as well with lines mish mashing together and strange problem that pops up in a few episodes is that the sub from several minutes ago will keep popping up over and over again throughout the episode when its not even supposed to be there. How that happend is beyond me, but seen it in a few episodes. But names seem to have gotten weaker in the translation department later on. Puru was correct and then it got spelt wrong, then it got messed up, and suddenly the name is Billy.... DO NOT WATCH THIS SET IF YOU HAVENT SEEN MS GUNDAM OR GUNDAM ZETA. You will be totally lost here if you haven't seen the first two series. This series takes place a couple days after the end of Zeta for example and it almost seems like one show the way they run into each other so closely. edited by AsukaXIkari on 10 Mar 2002 11:12 am
