The video quality was actually very good, the colors were very vivid and clear. There wasn't any of the faded colorings you'd notice on cheaper imports and no distracting distortions. The graphics were top notch and drawn pretty well, very cute looking characters... except for the paper men...
Audio:
The audio was excellent, clear and crisp, without any fading in and out volumes. The voice actors did quite a good job, apart from Excel's motormouth gibberish.

Alright, the anime itself is actually really hilarious if your demented enough to enjoy non-sensical comedy. I thought this was a really cool anime once I had pushed my reasonable and thinking brain aside. You just can't make any sense of this anime, all you have to do is sit back and laugh at their ridiculous attempts to take over the world. Aside from the poor subs, this is an enjoyble series.

OK, the show is fantastic, funny as hell, if you have a sense of humor you will love it, the only thing is, the subs...read on. VIDEO:**** Never seen Excel Saga look this good, very nice job, deffenatly DVD quality although they may have squesed a few to many eps onto 1 disk, but who cares, no lines, no breakups, good times. AUDIO:**** Cool, if you dont mind Excel-Chan going on and on and on and on and on in your ear for 20 mins then this audio is very nice, clear and crisp, no bleeps, crackling, humming or anything nasty like that. SUBTITLES:** DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN, Great Video, Great Audio, shitty subs, mostly out of timing (and i mean REALLY out of timing), like 4 or 5 lines ahed sometimes..Butchered Names (This gets worse later on) Nice translation but damn. This is a hard series to sub granted but if SAHA (Slow As Hell Anime(Fansubbers)) Could do it right why couldnt AC/MI...grrr..its soo annoying that a class series like this gets such crappy subs, but if you dont mind watching it with some fanscripts then knock yourself out. ANyway, Great Quality Anime, Crappy Subs, Goood Looks, Nice Sound. Buy it if you want to know what all the fuss is about.

Frankly this falls somewhere in the middle as far as HK releases are concerned. The video and audio fare well enough. Its the subs that have problems. The timing is bad in several of them, but it isnt unwatchable. Also, starting with ep19, the subs take a dive, seeing as how they aren't relying on Slow As Hell Anime's translations anymore. Many of the names have been changed and a lot of times the translation just isnt that great. It still fairs better than some (Angel Sanctuary anyone?). I wouldn't fully reccommend this set, but if you just REALLY wanna see it, go ahead.

Video: So far, so good. The video is consistant and is both very sharp and very clear. There are occasional scene-on-scene blips but they are rare and far apart. Aside from this, there are occasional video breakups, but these too are fairly rare, and overall the show looks great. 1 Manga International logo per episode. Audio: Unfortunately, MI took the liberty of making this release LOUDER. This hurts more than it helps, the show blares from time to time and is downright obnoxious as times because of it. On 3 notches, I can barely hear it - at 4 notches, it's too loud. But I guess a crappy TV will do that to you. Not horrible but not too good either. Subtitles: Not fantastic. I mean, they're in perfect english with only occasional slip ups in spelling, but the timing is way off in some episodes. The first 5 episodes are fine, then 6 thru 9 go to subtitle hell... Slow As Hell-style. They start lagging 2 - 8 lines behind or ahead of what Ha-chan and Excel are actually saying, in a show like this, thi sis HIGHLY irritating. Episodes 10 through 18 are also plagued by this, but it isn't as presistant nor is it as apparent, but it's still there. Episodes 19 - 26 use HK Original subs which are actually quite good, sure they butchered Excel and Ha-chan's name but overall it isn't too bad, at least it's properly timed. Overall...useable at times - great for those who either a) want to see what the big deal is (mind you, the background text isn't translated so some humor is lost.) or b) want to finish the show off. Overall: $null - judge for yourself.
