This is great for being a TV rip. I didn't notice any of the usual tell-tale green lines or shadows. The video was a little better on the disc that had fewer episodes. All in all it was a very good set. Early in the 1st or 2nd episode there was a slight glitch that looked like something you'd see on a VHS tape, but it was VERY brief.

The audio was good. I didn't notice any problems.

This is a cool set, but don't look for any extras. There are no previews at the end of the episodes. It just goes from one to the next. No opening song or ending song, just at the very begining and end of each disc.

This was my second TV rip (if you count Chobits' second disc that is), so I was pretty upset when I started watching this. But, for some reason, I didn't mind because the series was so good overall. So, it's one of the TV rips I had ever seen! Really it is. But there were moments where it was WAY too bright (like at the end of the series)

No problems here. Audio usually never is a problem...

This is an excellent series! Oh, I also should rate the box... Package: 5/5 I love the way that the disc completes the pictures behind it! It's so clever! LoL

Pretty good vhs-rip. The video is perfect except for maybe an half a second of the 2nd episode were the image goes totally nuts XP. There was also a line at the bottom of the screen which is kinda annoying were the image is a little bit distorced. Despite this, the show is very watchable.

No problems here. Excelente conversion.

I really liked the menus of this set. The main manu as a long scene of the X Ova and all the menus are totally animated. X rocks. The show is excelente and despite the little "bugs" of the video it is pretty watchable and you can totally enjoy the "power" of the show. A must-have for X fans.

obviously a VHS rip, but was done pretty well none the less. some lines at the bottom that can get pretty annoying and the colors dont blend as well as they would in a dvd but over all it is above average for an HK.
Audio:
the audio is fine but lets face it, its VHS quality, sounds a bit muffled but thats it.

I't's a TV or Vhs Rip from a TV .The Menus are in English. Video : 3.5/5.It's Pretty Watchable for a TV Rip...nothing excepcional but it's not crap either. The bottom of the screen presents some Distorcion(just a couple of lines). In Episode 2 there's a huge Distorcion that lasts for 2 seconds perhaps, pretty annoying. Audio : 3.5/5. No problems but not DVD quality. Japanese 2 ch. Subtitles : 4/5 . Well it's probably fansubs...there's a couple of misspellings and some weird pontuacion...but that's all. The Timings are correct and you will have no problem following the story. Extras : None Package : It comes in a Gatefold that holds the 2 DVDs. One is a DVD5 the other a DVD 9.I think that they have put the entire Set in 3 DVD 9s and spare the trouble of having to buy 2 different packages ... Overall : If You want to watch the Show this will get the job done...shame abou not being a DVD Rip. edited by The Swan on 13 Nov 2002 6:38 pm

Video: To me it looked great. Yes, it's obviously a VHS rip, and offcourse I would've preffered an R2, even if it took a few extra months, but this ones well worth the money. It's the best VHS rip I've ever seen, it looks pretty sharp, and overall just very nice. The only problem I noticed was that the colors were a bit 'dull', and there was a video glitch in the second episodes. It's more then enough to enjoy the series! Note : This one looks better (sharper) then the Kenshin TV series, but the colors are duller. Just so you can compare it to something. Audio: Sounded pretty good, bit dull maybe. Subs: Very good, fansubs rip I guess. Only some misspellings, timings, you get the idea. Video : 3.5 - 4 / 5 Audio : 4 / 5 Subs : 4.5 / 5

To start off, this set is ok, it's nothing spectacular, however, it's not crap either. The show has become pretty engrossing, so I was still able to overlook the shortcomings of this set just because it was fun to watch. ANd believe me, there are quite a few shortcomings. on to the review. Video - 3/5 I didn't like the video from this set all that much. The source was VHS tape (and you can see the distorted VHS line at the bottom of the screen shots I post). This poses a few qualms. First off, there is the VHS distortion at the bottom of the picture which doesn't look all that pleasant. Due to the amount of movement this cuases, it detracts from the bit rate total of the video as a whole. Also the video is pretty blurry from the tape. It doesn't look like it was recorded all that well, and there was a LOT of color bleeding. To top it all off, it was way too bright as well. Aside from those complaints, it looks good enough to score 3. Macroblocking doesn't exist here too much, only a few times when the screen is flashing really fast. And of course, at 27:08 on the first DVD, there is a VHS distortion blip that lasts a few seconds (I provided a screen cap for you to see). Besides that, it seems intact, and pretty good. Audio - 4/5 The audio for the most part comes out crisp and clear with no hums, or hisses. However, the problem I found with the audio is that sometimes it would drop out and become really quiet or muffled for a few seconds every once and a while (courtesy of the VHS rip). Subtitles - 4/5 The subs are for the most on the nose, and pretty good, however, misspellings and misstimings detract from the overall score, otherwise it would be perfect. The translations seem to have been created by either a fansub script, or the HK translater has been improving a lot. All and all, the set has a pretty good story. So despite the audio and video problems, it's still fun to watch. The set is included on 1 DVD-5 and 1 DVD-9, so episodes 1-4 are on the first (however, it's only 3.9 gigs, and not even using the whole 4.7, which wold have definately made the video look a lot better.) Disc 2 is 7.47 gigs and has episodes 5-13. All In all, I think this set is definately worth the money if you like the story, however, if you don't, it may not be all that desirable, since the video and audio aren't that great.

So far so good. Done with this first volume and it's 300% better than the excrement X Movie from a few years ago. But now on to the important stuff. Video - 3.5/5 It's good for a TV rip, but come on now. Give us R2 DVD rips MI! If they're not out yet, it's worth the wait. Everything is really soft and you can see some "noise" at the bottom of the screen for a few episodes. Plus that big "video burp" that's now infamous. Audio - 4/5 Nothing to complain about. Subs - 4/5 Some spelling mistakes (quite a few in the first few eps), but that's about it. Japanese names used and it's all pretty clear. No problems. More than likely a fansub script. If I knew it was a TV rip before I got it I would have waited to see if a DVD rip was made available at a later date from another company.

Video - 4/5 Nice Tv rip. There are watermarks at the beginning of episodes 1,3,5,7,9,10, and 12 for about 15 seconds. There is one e-mail address shown during the first half of every episode and then another e-mail address shown during the second half. Audio - 4/5 No problems here Subs - 4.5/5 Very very nice. All the names of the characters and places were correct. Fansubs were definitely used. The subs on this set are even better than the subs on the Yami no Matsuei set. I would have given it a 5/5 but there were a few typos in each episode. There were also about 2 unsubbed lines throughout the whole set. There are no extras and there is only one OP and one ED per disc. There are no "Next Episode" previews between episodes. Content - 5/5 I really liked the show a lot and I can't wait to see the rest of it. All the characters who died so quickly in the X movie are really well developed in this series. The artwork is perfect all the way through, the story is intriguing, the music is great, and there's tons of action. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Okay, I only have the first volume of the MI so far. There wasn't a seprarte section for it, so I'll post it here, as well as the second volume when I get it in. Video-- (5/5) One glitch in the entire first volume. ONE. One VERY noticable glitch. Audio-- (4.5/5) Sounded good to me! Subtitles-- (5/5) Lots of typos, and a few missing lines. Other than that, they are perfect. Content-- (5/5) I'm really liking this series so far. I loved the movie, and now I'm enjoying the series even more. I can't wait to get volume two! =D

Definitely something to look into if you're a fan of the X series. The movie tried to compress it all into a short amount of time and just created a lot of confusion, but the show allows to to meet all the dragons and understand their personalities.

I'm new to HK DVD and in fact, X vol.1 and 2 were the first HK I ever bought. And like 1 hour after ordering it I stumbled upon a lot of HK DVD reviews and that the one biggest flaw is the subs SUCK. But X has turned out better than I thought. I really like this series I'm so glad I got it. Video: it's great! everything is great, the animation is superb. this is why I love new series! Audio: I didn't notice anything strange with the audio except that the volume is a little low. but it's not a problem at all. Subtitles: yeah, now I know how annoying it is. I mean the subs are okay, you can basicallly understand what they're saying, but the name change arghhh, they're ruining my favorite series. also there are parts when the subs fly by really fast, but I think it only happened like twice... Overall: what else can I say, a great anime series for such a cheap price, I guess I can live with Kamui being Shenwei.
