Comment:
Video: Nothing to complain about, but the show has average animation anyhow. 4.5/5
Audio: Same. 4.5/5
Subtitles: 4/5 where they are available, but overall 3.5/5 (see below)
When I first saw Comic Party, it was only the last two episodes shown at an anime club screening. I laughed quite a bit watching it, and decided I should get it.
The show is rather funny, and is about a regular guy (Kazuki) who gets pulled into the world of doujin conventions by a goofball friend (Taishi), to the dismay of his girlfriend. The first disk is priceless; the second is a bit slow and less funny in some ways, and the last disk picks up the pace again. Probably because Taishi starts goofing off again, calling everybody "My Brother" (in bad English) and laughing maniacally.
As far as this particular MI release goes: video looks fine, audio sounds fine, nothing to complain about. I can't really give it perfect score, because I suspect the source material wouldn't get it anyhow, given that the animation, while effective, is nothing special.
The subs, when they are there, are pretty good, and look like they're coming from the fansubs (at least for the last two eps, don't know about the others). There's quite a few typos in the first few episodes, but it eventually gets better--or I just stopped noticing them. Overall, except for the typos, good subs. 4/5
Unfortunately, the subs aren't always there. For instance, they're missing from the Special, which is bundled on the DVD set together with the series. I don't know why they were included if they weren't about to be subbed--weird. More annoying is that they're missing from the pre-opening sequence in the last two eps. on disc 1. You can tell what went on in the sequences from the rest of the episodes, but it's a bit annoying and mars an otherwise very good subbing job.
Overall: If you like easy, light-hearted comedy, you'll probably like this set. The series has some undefinable charm that kind of grows on you. The subs are pretty good, and despite their absence in some places, you'll still enjoy this series.
