G Dangaio
PUBLISHER: MI
FORMAT: 3 x DVD-5
CONTENT: Episodes 1-13 of 13 (30 minutes per episode)
VIDEO: 4.0
This set contains all 13 episodes of the G Dangaio TV series. The show itself seems to set up a second series, though I don't know if one was produced or is planned. The show was better than I expected, but then I wasn't expecting much. ^_^ Video is a TV rip, but is surprisingly good. Aside from some very minor color bleed, it looks like a DVD source. Very clear and sharp, good solid colors, and no distortion. There are the usual "Please watch TV in a well-lit room..." at the beginning of each episode, and on 2-3 episodes there's news/weather bulletins scrolling across the screen. One OP/ED per disc.
AUDIO: 3.5
Audio is pretty good, but you can hear a slight hiss when it gets quiet.
SUBS: 3.0
Subs are very good HK subs. Names are wrong for most characters, but correct for ones spelled in Katakana (mostly mecha). Attacks are usually named wrong too--"Distortion Punch" becaomes "Tankenfang Fist" (Tankenfang==Dangaio).
PACKAGING: 3.5
Packaging is discount-style gatefolds, with OK art on the cover.
OVERALL: 3.5
In all, it's not a bad set. The video quality is much better than other recent TV-rips like Inu Yasha and Angelic Layer, and the subs are very good. The story is OK, something like Evangelion with some old-school giant robot action and no biblical references. Really nice art and character designs, and the plot was just getting good when the series ends. Not a must-buy, but not a waste of money either.
