I bought the non-AS rip/regular AC version of this OVA or movie or whatever. Video: 4/5 Audio: 5/5 Subs: 3/5 Don't know if they're fansubs or originals, but they get the intended meaning right, it's just word choice, correct tense, and grammar could use some ironing out--makes it read like semi-Engrish. Also, all of the proper names for the special moves are translated into English as well (Ryusuisen = "Dragon ---" etc.) As noted before, they tend to call a character by their last name even if in spoken dialogue they call him by his first (Myojin for Yahiko, or Sagara for Sanosuke for example.) Very understandable, not a chore to read or understand, I'm just being picky.

There must be a few versions of this DVD going around. I have the AC version of this DVD but when the DVD starts, AS logo poped upped at the beginning instead of AC. Just to make sure, I checked my disc and AC was printed on it. AC must have ripped AS for this version. The version I have is a definite R1 rip which includes the english dubbing. You would reconize this one by the cover which has the same picture as the the r1 cover. Video 5/5 same as r1 sound 4.5/5 clear with no problems. Bonus of english dubbing for those that prefer it that way. subs 3.5 It is in perfect english but sometimes a few lines that are said are missing or a little late. Plus there was a wierd problem where a few sentences were using fonts that have only the black outline and you could see through the rest of the letter. These are hard to read, especially if the scenes are dark.

Well, this is the movie but on the menus you can read "Kenshin OAV". A guy in HK told me that it´s a common thing to call OAV a movie because bla bla (heh, I don´t remember what he said). We are talking about the movie. Note: It´s not a R1 rip, I guess you review is for the AS version Shady! Video: Very very good, a R2 rip I guess. 5/5 Audio: You can choose between a 2ch japanese track or a real 5.1 one. I just watched it using the 5.1 and it worked great (2 times there was some kind of "interruption" on the rear speakers during the movie, not big deal). Don´t know if the R1 has this feature so it´s a plus. 4.5/5 Subs: Good but not perfect, some names are changed (they use the last name instead of the first name, or viceversa), misspellings, but OK in general. 3.5-4/5 Good buy if you are a Kenshin fan, if you want a good "swordplay movie" get Ninja Scroll.

This is a straight rip from the R1 so it's very good. I'm not really an expert on judging video quality but this looked very good to me. No blurring or pixelation (atleast I didn't notice any) and I checked the bitrate and it was 5.23 mbps all the way. The audio was fine too, I didn't notice any quirks. The subtitles were good as well. Exactly like the R1 I guess. I think only noticed a line missing once. If I remember correctly the "M" is sometimes spaced at the beginning of a word, example: M ore, or something like that. The packaging was nice but not as nice as I though from the picture. I believe they used 1 picture 3 times on the cover but it still looks very nice. Even though this is a direct rip from the American release (you can the Samurai X in the title at the beginning) the English dub was not included (not that many people will mind).
