Video:
The video was quite good, the top end quality of hk dvds. A bit of colour leaking but nothing to worry about.
Audio:
Audio seemed fine, I can't really knock it.
Subtitle:
Subtitles very very good, though there were some parts with a little miss-timing. Some of the sentences are not constructed properly, using the wrong tenses etc. Overall it was relatively good
Comment:
The packaging is very big. It comes in a LARGE dvd case with a cardboard box slip-case. There is a sponge piece inside to stop the dvds moving about. The series was just over average. I didn't think it was as good as people make it out. I give it about 7.5/10. The best episodes were the last 3-4.

Video:
I just watched this set for the second time, and I wanted to give some thoughts I had about this set from watching it a second time. First off, about Video. I got a chance to check out some screenshots from the FX version, and I was able to determine that this set does in fact have video that is above and beyond the FX set, however it isn't necessarily the best either. The video has better colors than the FX set (more vibranat and richer), and has less pixelation. The video in this set does have a few flaws. First off, there are some trails that occur when there's a light object traveling on a dark area. However, I think that is due to watching it on the computer, and paying too close attention to the pixels. When watching on the TV, you really don't see the same thing as on a computer monitor. There is also a little pixelation, however, it is not to the extent that the FX set has it (Rather than the whole screen turning into a pallete of macroblocks, you'll see compresion on edges). I just want to point out that the flaws I do see are NOT serious flaws in the set. They are noticeable, however, not a problem.
Audio:
Nothing to say about the audio, it's fine.
Subtitle:
The subtitles in this set are more or less just fine. I'm not sure where the source for these had originated. The grammer on the episodes are more or less perfect, however, sometimes they seemed to be translated a little too literally, and not so much in a manner to convey what the character is saying. However, with that being said, there are other times when the subs are translated just fine. I have noticed a few times when the subs were a little mistranslated as well. The subs for the most part are timed, just fine, however, there are mistimings, and they happen sometimes (one example is in the first 5 minutes of the first episode when someone says something, then the title screen appears, and what they said is shown under the text, and then what the text said appears when the next person talks). Last but certainly not least, a dispute between 2 important characters occurs in the last minutes of episode 22, and it's totally unsubbed. Annoying to say the least. Even with al these flaws, the subs aren't totally bad. The flaws I mentioned represent a minute amount of subtitles, and the rest certainly are understandable.

Great quality, the logo does appear on every episode (only for a few seconds) but it does not detract from viewing.
Audio:
No problems here.
Subtitle:
All in all, very good, a few minor typos, a couple of mitimed subs as well. As mentioned before there is a non subbed bit, but I felt it didn't detract from the overall set.

No matter what company you buy this from it's a must have for any anime fan. As soon as I got it I sat down to watch it & watched all the way to about the end of the forth disc, or begining of the fifth. As for the sound, I didn't really pay to much attention, but I didn't hear any skips or the sort. As for video, it was great! The only glitch like times accept for on disc for (which as because of a small scratch) was the fault of my dvd player. In other words it was in one word GREAT! Subtitles, well they weren't the best, although they were very good. I found a small amount of misspellings, although I can't spell very well & I probably don't know how they are spelled! Also as one person said about the part where is wasn't subbed, I was POed to read Wolfwood say something about "Vash the Stampede, that's a nickname right?" & then Vash said something or another about not wantig to say his name & then between two to four lines after that weren't sub. In concluion, BUY THIS SERIES! edited by Batz Kage on 26 Aug 2002 6:55 pm

This was a solid set. Video 4.5 Audio 4.5 Subs 4.0 Towards the end Wolfwood and Vash's converstaion is not subbed and it drive me INSANE!!! Oh well, i'm going to pick up the FX set and hope that everything is gravy with that. Trigun is one of the best anime series out there. Whatever you choose to do, don't worry about the content of this set, it's worth it.

Looks almost as good as the R1's, but there is a slight hint of grain/compression here and there. There was actually less rainbowing than the R1 discs which really impressed me.
Audio:
Very good audio. No signs of compression or distortion even at high volume. Possibly an R1 or R2 rip?
Subtitle:
The subtitles are great and their quality doesn't decrease as the series progresses. The only thing that irritated me was how they called Rem "Lem", but I got over it.
Comment:
This is a near-perfect set from MI and a very good substitute for the near 200 dollar R1 release. The discs themselves are much cooler looking than the boring, silver, finger-print attracting R1 discs too. Each disc features an up-close of different characters from the series: Vash, Wolfwood, Meryl, BDN, Legato, and Knives. If you can live without the dub track then you will be very satisfied with this set.

This set is really really good. The video and the audio both excel, and sound really really good, and it's also got good (and original I think) subs. There are a few errors with the Video here and there, but nothing major enough to deter one from buying this great set. Video 4/5 I'll start off by saying that the video for this anime is kinda drab, and wasn't the best out there. But even so, there is quite a bit of vibrance in most cases. This set (despite the video's weaknesses) still maintains all of the quality that the original video has. The only problems I have are only two things. 1)There is a bit of rainbowing here and there, and 2) There are some compression artifacts here and there. Neither of which provide enough reason not to buy this set. Audio 5/5 The audio for this set is spectacular. There is no hum, popping or any sort of hiss. The music in this set is spectacular, and all of it is able to be heard with no flaws. Subs - 4/5 The subs in this set had little Engrish in them, but there was maybe 1 or 2 lines per episode that were hard to understand. For the most part the subs were dead on, and very accurate. This set is a must buy for trigun fans, and for anyone in need of a good anime. The points in video that I mentioned I wish they could have altered beforehand, but it's more of a nit pick than anything else, so I guess it really doesn't matter too much. Either way, get this set. you won't be disapointed.

I already own the Region 1 set, but because I love this show so much I bought this set as a back-up (for $38--at least that's my excuse). The video and audio are very good, and they keep all of the original openings for each episode intact (the Region 1 DVDs use the same opening for every episode). Overall the subtitle quality is very good too, but it seems that the subs come from at least 2 or 3 different sources. Episodes 5-8 and 11-12 are nearly carbon copies of the Region 1 subs. The other episode subs are either fansubs or originals (I know they're not the Region 1's), but they're very good and always understandable. I can't comment on the episodes on Disc 4 because my copy of that disc was defective. Most of the problems with the subs are not common but are familiar: mistiming for one scene, a line or two not subbed, spelling, grammar. But, again, this doesn't happen often. My problems with the set are that the Next Episode Previews were not subtitled well (in Engrish, except for 3 or 4 of them), the last part of the dialogue between Nick and Vash isn't subbed during the last scene of Episode 22 ("Alternative"), and Vash's hilarious "Total Slaughter" song isn't subbed on Episode 19 ("Hang-Fire"). But really, this is just being really picky. Overall this is a great set worth owning, and a great series to boot.

This is not an R1 release as the previous reviewer thinks. You get all of the original introductions in japanese with the different bad guys that appear in that episode (The R1 episodes took the first episodes intro and used that for every subsequent episode afterwards, which is why you see the same episode 1 bad guys on every intro). The video does suffer a little from Rainbowing here and there which makes me think it's either a LD source, or it's a rip of a DVD that had a LD source. edited by kakomu on 27 May 2002 10:59 pm

This looks like its a Rip from the R1 source... the video and audio are very sharp... the names of the episodes apear in English which makes me think that its from R1 release and the subtitles are perfect, no spelling mistakes the timing is right, the phrasing is correct... The only thing thats NOT from R1 is the menues, they are HK originals and there is NO ENGLISH DUB on this DVD like many people claiming or inquirying about. See Screenhots for quality of the subtitles.
