Great video, probably ripped straight from the R2 release. Of course MI insist on ruining the Video with the Famous M logo, thankfully they didn't put the Email Adress
Audio:
Sounded Ok, pretty perfect to me.

Pretty good DVD, no problems really besides the M logo being hardcoded in the Video.Contains no Extras and the Menus are in English

Very, very good video! I've noticed some minor grains once in a while, but they're no big deal.
Audio:
Superb! I was supposed to give it a 5, but I noticed some "ticky" sounds during Magnetic Rose episode. It happened only about 5 or 6 times along the whole episode.

Memories is definitely a heck of an anime, and I do highly reccomend the MI set. This is definitely one of the best single HKDVD's I have.

Video seemed fine. No problems or glitches.

Sounded nice enough. Nothing stellar, but no glitches, pops, or hisses.

An interesting set of three unrelated shorts, each animated in a different style, each telling it's own story in it's own way. The chapters are broken up 1 per short, so there's no way to jump around to, say, your favorite scene in "Stink Bomb" where the japanese air force manages to blow up a few square miles of terrain and still miss a little guy on a bike. Aside from subtitle issues, this is a nice set, and a good purchase if you're interested in independent film-style animated shorts.

Let's get right down to business. Video: 5/5 Very clear, could not see any noise or distortion. Audio: 5/5 I have only tried the disc on TV speakers and PC 2-speakers, but everything sounded great. Subtitles: 4/5 Mistakes occur here and there, like lines from 2 people combined, spelling errors, timing, etc., but these do not occur often and are quite minor. Very understandable. Engrish is at a minimum. Watching the first episode made me pull out my Memories manga which I got so many years ago. The story was very interesting... the second episode was funny ^_^ The third was strange, but the art and direction were really good. This is greate anime to watch and to own. Safe for family viewing.

This title is worth seeing for any anime fan. Three short movies. Anyhow, this review is about the quality of the DVD, not the movie itself... The audio and video are superb. The audio is Dolby Digital 2.0, and has no breakups or distortion that I could see. The video is anamorphic, and looks just fine (I'll upload some screenshots as soon as I'm done this writing). The MI logo appears every now and then, but it's not too bad. Now, the subtitles... this is what everyone reads these reviews for, huh? :) They're quite good. Well worded for the most part, with a few timing and grammar errors every now and then. Sometimes the line of the previous speaker isn't displayed, and then is included with the line of the current speaker, but only a few times. Also, I noticed that a couple times, the subtitles got ahead of the video by a line, which corrected itself quite fast. The names used in the subtitles are all correct, no Chinese names here. The sound and video I'd rates as 5/5, and the subtitles 4/5. As there is no R1 release (it's not even licensed), this is the only way to get this title cheaply on DVD. It's a wonderful film that all anime fans should see, and the HK DVD is pretty damn nice! Check my screenshots! One thing I thought I'd add, there are only three chapter breaks, one for each segment. It did get pretty annoying sometimes. edited by Bob_McBob on 11 Sep 2002 3:58 pm

All three movies are really really neat, and are a perfect justification for anime. Well, the last one was a little obvious, but the art and animation style made up for it. Subtitles are fansub scripts so it's hard to go wrong. The background music of all movies and also the final credits is wonderful. 5/5 in all respects. Even the packaging is great.

Video 5/5 Audio 5/5 -even though my setup is basic, I did not hear anything wrong. Subs 5/5 -almost perfect fansubs, very understandable and very accurate. This is definitely an R2 rip as the video and sound are so perfect. Even the main menu has animation which was probably from the R2 dvd. If you do not mind the MI watermark coming up every once and a while and can't wait for an R1 release, I recommend you get this now. An Otomo classic!

This is definetly a R1-rip that is really good and has really nice menus. I enjoyed the movie(s) and will recommend it.

I was really excited when I found out Memories was being released on hkdvd. Finally I can toss my worn out fansub. was it worth it? read on Video: 5 out of 5. Gorgeous transfer! I think this one is a rip of the R2 release. You'll see no color bleeding or skipping here. The only thing is that damn MI logo pops up from time to time, but not a big deal. Audio: 4 out of 5. Good use of surrounds in dolby prologic. sounds great in stereo also, no drop outs or hissing. Subtitles: 4.5 out of 5. for the most part dead on. A few grammar mistakes. Nothing that takes away from the actual story. The menus are really nice also. You get chapter breaks for each of the stories. So if you hit next on your remote it will skip directly to the next story. This was a great MI release, with no R1 release in site pick this one up you won't be sorry
