Comment:
VIDEO: Pretty bad, yeah. While not some of the worst I've ever seen. It was tolerable enougj, but it still annoyed me for this classic film to have crappy video.
GRADE: C+
AUDIO: Pretty good for the most part. I noticed that it would sort of pop up really high at some points, and then go back to normal. Still, the audio was very good, and there isn't much to gripe about.
GRADE: A-
SUBTITLES: Fansubs, I guess. Either that, or the best HK originals I have ever seen in my entire life. One problem: At one scene a subtitle stays on the screen for nearly thirty seconds, and there was a lot of dialougue in that scene too. Other than that, they were fine.
GRADE: A
SERIES/MOVIE/OAV: Well, Macross does it again! This flick is G-O-L-D. And don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. I still need to check out the original series. *grumble, grumble.*
GRADE: A+
MENUS: The menus rocked, even if the song being played in the background was never in the movie. Some nice artwork, and a wonderful song.
GRADE: A+
PACKAGING: Pretty boring. Just your average keepercase-type-thing/whatever the hell you call them. The cover was pretty boring, also. It just features Minmay and Hikaru. Big deal. Does it really MATTER that much, though? If it does, you're one sad, twisted anime fan.
GRADE: D+
CHAPTER STOPS: I don't mind for a series to only have chapter stops once every episode. I'm used to that, so it never bothers me. But, JESUS, this movie had NO chapter stops whatsoever. NONE. Pretty crapo'rific.
GRADE: F-
EXTRA FEATURES: I would have liked some, but there were none.
GRADE: N/A
OVERALL DISC OPINION: Well, all I have to say is this: If this DVD is not in your collection, then run and buy it. I don't care where from. Even if you have to run through the firey pits of hell to reach an extra dollar that will help you pay for it back on earth, and then run back through the pits of hell, and then watch every distributor go out of stock, and not buy anything for three years, until it's back in stock. It's worth it. Also, it will never be released on region-one DVD, so it's more than just essential. It's... er... super-essential. *_*
