Good Images Quality, but nothing compared to the Animeigo

Subtitle:

Eh, some weird ads inbetween instead of subtitling and nothing spectacular.

Would see and wait if FX does a R1 Rip. Edit by Schultz: FX WILL NOT DO A MACROSS RIP

The video quality rocks for an R2, but the subtitles lack for some missing lines and mispelled words. But might I say that I do not recommend this one. I saw a little of this at a friend's house. First of all, Macross is a very good series. It's also what was transformed into the first Robotech saga which was shown in the U.S. during the 80's. It helped bring in a lot of new anime fans and got many new people interested in the art style along with films such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell. This is truely a classic you have to check out eventually in life. It has a great story and great characters. I'm assuming this was ripped from an LD source. A very bad LD source that truely shows its age. This looks hideious compared to the Animeigo set that was recently released. There is fuzz to the extreme and the colors look piss poor. This is absolutely not good at all. There is also a lot of pixilation during the busy scenes, which happen often. This is not bad to the extent of being unwatchable, it's still better than the VCD's that were released a while ago but it's not that great at all. The audio is alright, possible to live with, but still shows a little of its age. Not the greatest. Now for the actual subtitles. In the beginning it fools you with the first episode being in perfect English, making you think that the money you paid was worth it. This set puts no one ups on the legit version, though. Quickly it transforms to crap Engrish that is very annoying to read. Perhaps if you really pay close attention and think really hard you may be able to get by but it's hard to understand and annoying to read. If you really want to get an HK set of this, wait for FX's rip of the Animeigo set. You'll be glad you did. This is one series you won't want to skimp out on. Go the extra mile, wait a little bet, and watch a respectable version. It's that awesome of a series.

The optics and sonics are, well, passable, at best. I guess they're decent for such an antique series, but the fact that this is one of my personal favorites does not bode well at all. The subtitles are painful, kids. Just trust me. Now the question is this: with AnimEigo pouring so much heart and soul and time (and money) into an official R1 release of this, why bother with trash like this? Answer: Don't.

The video and audio are good. However, the subs for the most part suck. There are 2 or 3 episodes where they are close to perfect. But don't expect much in the subs. Rumor is that FX is going to release a much better set.
