The video is pretty poor; it's very soft, and generally not encoded very well. The colours aren't particularly wonderful (though the movie is quite dark to begin with), etc. The transfer isn't anamorphic. The person who complained about black bars on the sides obviously doesn't understand some basic fundamentals of how televisions work... you won't see them on a TV, unless your DVD player does overscan (which you should be able to disable).
Audio:
There's nothing really wrong with it, it doesn't drop out, etc... it's certainly not a DTS source like the package would imply, however! 192kbps AC3 2.0.

Comment:
The R1 is $27 from Amazon, I would recommend buying it if you have the money. I don't generally buy movies on HK DVD, because the R1 discs aren't too expensive (as movies go...). I only bought this because there was no R1 relase back then, I doubt I would buy it nowadays. I've posted about 20 screenshots, check them out!

This is a wonderful, wonderful movie. EVERYONE NEEDS TO OWN THIS MOVIE IN SOME SORT OF FORMAT! >_ Video-- (2.5/5) Hohum... :^/ This is the factor that made me sell my old HK dvd on eBay... :^/ But, now, I own the SE R1 disc from Bandai, soo... ^_^ Audio-- (3.5/5) Ermm... Not great, but not horrible! Sort of jerky, and things, but still decent! Very tolerable! Subtitles-- (4/5) Wow! This almost talked me out of selling this movie! (Almost.. :^/) Content-- (5/5) Awesome flick. Buy it. The HK dvd should be reserved for people who didn't like the flick very much, but otherwise: BUY THE SE R1 DISC! >_

This is a great movie, by the way. Video: The washed-out look may be the way the picture was intended to be, but I did notice some pixellation in a couple of scenes. 3.5/5 Audio: Everything sounds A-OK. 4/5 Subtitles: Really good, almost perfect as everyone has said. To be picky, I didn't really like the font. 4.5/5 There is an extra after the end of the movie--interviews with the people who made it. They're not subbed however, but it's nice to have.

Pretty good video, although some darker colours (especially browns) bleed a good deal in a few scenes. Overall however, I was satisfied.
Audio:
I'm not sure what the format of the audio was, but I didn't notice any problems (hissing, cutting out, etc).

An excellent release of a very interesting film, a good addition to any anime collection.

Video: Defenitely a LaserDisc transfer. The video looks a little 'washed out' at times, but overall it looks very good. Sometimes theres a little grain in dark places though. Nothing to too big though. 3.5/5 Audio: Sounds nice, but i'm not an expert. 4/5 Subs: The're great. Except for some typo's they're near perfect! 4/5
