Video:
Beautiful transfer. I have the first disc of the R1's and did a side-by-side comparison, and I couldn't notice a difference. There is some very slight pixelation that crops up for a few seconds during one of the openings, which might be a bit of an annoyance for some. But other than that, it's very rare that there's any pixelation. I think maybe three episodes out of fifty have it, and even then only for a few seconds.
Audio:
Flawless. Everything sounds like it's supposed to. This show has a great soundtrack too. The English dub is an R1 rip and sounds great with no problems at all. This show's dub is really good, too, to the point that I actually liked it more than the subbed version, mainly because I dislike Athrun's Japanese voice.

Comment:
Menus: Also direct rips from the R1's. All the animations are intact and the menus work flawlessly. Extras: All the extras from the R1's are included! You get trailers, Gundam mechanical files, creditless openings and endings, and even music videos. Big props to them for including these! There's very few perfect collections that include the extras (usually if you click on the extras button you get a random trailer or something) so it was a great surprise to see these. Content: This is easily the best mech series I've ever seen, and of course the best Gundam. For the first four or five episodes it looks like it'll be a remake of the original Gundam, but as soon as they leave Heliopolis the show begins to go its own way and takes things in surprising and new directions. One of the trademarks of Gundam is that there are no "good" or "evil" sides to the conflicts-just because the hero is on one side doesn't make the other side evil, just the enemy. This is explored in great debth here, and the plot takes on a great deal of unexpected twists and forces you to question which side is right-an answer which might change depending on where you are in the story. There's also a very large cast, but they're all written quite well and everyone feels unique. Nearly every character is dynamic and develops in some way throughout the story. The mech battles are great, featuring some very slick animation and a large number of things going on at once, like in a real battle. It's very rarely just two machines facing off, since this is a war after all. The plot is also very tight-every episode except one (I'll get to that in a second) advances the plot in some way. The one complaint I had is that the show tends to cut corners a bit by reusing a lot of animation. There are flashbacks featuring old footage inserted quite a bit, and no less than three clip episodes (three of them still advance the plot, but one of them-episode 26-has no new footage at all and is just a narrated recap.) Still, I guess when you're doing a 50 episode series you have to cut corners somewhere. All in all, Seed is a truly awesome series with a great set of characters, a deep plot, lots of action and an emotional ending. 5/5
