Video:
These are all anamorphic movies from good sources. I've included screen shots of the title screens so you can see which are R1 copies and which are R2. Some of the extras have been included on each disc but the compression is still very good and I didn't notice any pixellation at all during the movies. For Totoro, this is on par with the very best R2 copy that I've seen so far as far as quality goes.
Audio:
I test everything in stereo and every movie in the set had clear separation without any hums or odd noises to disrupt my entertainment. I listened to everything with the English dubs (that's one down side to watching movies with a three year old) so I can't comment on the quality of the Japanese audio tracks. Fortunately, all of the dubs here were done with care so the voice carry subtle emotions as well as the more extreme ones that seem to be the only thing that most dub companies care about.

Comment:
The very first thing that impressed me with this set is that the case holds all four discs in a case the size of a standard DVD case. The locks are very easy to work and hold the discs securly. The artwork is kind of bland but gets the point across as to what is actually inside.
I would like to see a second Ghibli Perfect set with Cat Returns, Nausicaa, Pom Poko, My Neighbours the Yamadas, Castle of Cagliostro (I know it's not Ghibli but it is a Miyazaki) and Whisper of the Heart which are all available as R1s.
