Reviews for Azumanga Daioh Perfect Collection

In a word; inconsistent the video not only has blockyness/blacklines on fast movement often, a forgivable thing. But there is also blockness on simple movements like a character rubbing their hand on their face or turning their head, though just as often the slower animations like that look great. Still worth the price of an HK but not up to the standard of what a normal Perfect Collection should be because of how the simple animations are sometimes.

Audio:

Good sound quality. I liked the English dub a lot. Soundtrack fits well with the show and doesn't get in the way.

Subtitle:

Checked a few episodes on each disc. Offical R1 English sub rip no problems found.

Notes* *I watched this series on a COBY brand DVD player (DVD-224 model) with AV cable on a 25 inch RCA TV.

The colour and picture quality in general are both good. Unfortunately, there is a small amount of anti-aliasing (horizontal lines at the edges of shapes that move) that happens in every high motion scene. I still gave this five stars because this problem is found in the original R1s that this series was ripped from. Fortunately, this isn't an action series so it doesn't distract too much.

Audio:

The sound quality on this matches the R1 release without any buzzes or hisses or sound level problems. The English dub is notable in that it does a great job delivering all the various girls personalities through the voice acting.

Subtitle:

These are direct rips from the R1 source and are perfectly timed with easy to read yellow subs. Anyone who wants to watch this with the original Japanese voice actors will be happy with these subtitles.

Comment:

This has been a pleasant surprise of a series to watch. I really didn't expect too much from it to start but the more I watch it the more I enjoy the characters and pointless stories of each episode. I guess it's kind of like Seinfeld in that respect... just set in a Japanese high school instead of a bachelor's apartment. Each disc has a small sampling of extras on them as well. It's nice to see when the extras are carried over from the R1s. My three year old daughter tells me that she wants to be like Miss Sakaki when she grows up.
