Reviews for Slayers, The - Next

Video:

In the action scenes and the eyecatches, there is some noticeable pixelation. At other times, the image is crisp and clear.

Audio:

No problems here! It's in stereo and there was no distortion, no out-of-sync, no nothing. Great!

Subtitle:

There is a selection of Chinese and English subtitles. The English is really good, R1 rips (or possibly fansub rips) I'd say! I don't remember any typos or grammar errors! The Chinese is in traditional format and it's very good as well. No missing lines at all.

Comment:

I think that this release is certainly a must-have if you cannot afford the official releases. This is just as good. The downside is that the chapter menu are divided by episode; one selection for each episode. For each of the 3 discs, the first episode on the disc contains an opening theme. And the last episode of the disc contains the ending theme. For the in-betweeners, no opening nor ending themes.

Good video. Some slight pixelation now and then, but hardly noticeable. Also looks a bit unsharp, but I guess it's the same on the original source.

Audio:

Nothing to complain about on my simple stereo TV speakers.

Subtitle:

Perfect. I don't even remember a single typing error.

Comment:

I liked this more than the previous season. Has some really funny moments. If you liked Slayers, you'll love this one. For all others: A nearly perfect set of an entertaining series. Not a must-buy, but you won't regret buying this.

Somehow, it seemed as though the color was a bit off. Nothing major. It was really great quality, but there was a tiny bit of blur to it, I think.

Audio:

I heard nothing wrong with it. In fact, it sounded really great.

Subtitle:

R1 rips, I'd say. Really great on the translations. No timing issues that I could see, though I only watched the first disc. I wish everything came this good.

Comment:

Seeing as this is the series which got me into anime a few years ago, it's hard to be objective. I adore this series, and Next is the best season out of all three. I'd definitely recommend this show to anyone. Especially if you like fantasy, comedy, and a hero who does more damage than the bad guys.

Video 4.5/5 - Great quality here, but still lacks more crispness. Sound 4.5/5 - Overall it's impressive, but sometimes when someone's speaking off screen their voices practically disappear - maybe it works better with surround sound. Subtitles 5/5 - BEEEEUUUUUUTTTTTEEEEEFFFFUUULLLLL! Subs here are nothing short of perfect. English is completely comprehensible, no blatant grammar errors, and only a few spelling errors here and there. Best subs I've seen in an HK anime so far.
