Reviews for Slayers, The

Subtitles are good. The main thing about this is you will still know what is going on even if the subtitles are misspelled or have grammar errors. It doesnt take away from what is going on at all.

I love slayers. If you are into comedy i would suggest slayers!! Yay! Slayers is a comedy about Lina Inverse( she rocks) who basically is on a search to find the Clare Bible. She gets into a lot of trouble, but funny.

The video wasn't bad at all. Definately a R1 rip because of the translated episode titles and such.

Audio:

The audio was ok...until this one episode that was a second ahead. It was extremely annoying. The rest of the episodes were fine. I was told that the audio was only in the left speaker - mono, but since i don't have surround i didn't notice anything

Subtitle:

Wow these subs were understandable but sucky at the same time. There were periods and commas mixed in with the lines, replacing spaces a lot of times. Plenty of spelling errors but the names were ok. The worst part was when lines started becoming unsubbed frequently on the 3rd disc. It would have been nice to know what they were saying but it didn't take away from the anime any.

Comment:

Slayers is so fuggin funny. It makes me smile throughout the whole series, and the ending leaves you with a very satisfying feeling that all anime should have. Excellent series. 8.5/10

Hmm... Well, prior to buying this series, I had heard the quality was less than stellar... I thought it was okay. Nothing special.

Audio:

The audio seemed out of sync in one episode, as others have said. It's notieceable, but it's only for that one episode. In all, the sound is exceptional.

Subtitle:

I was horrified by the sub quality... I guess, now, I don't feel so shocked; it is an HK, afterall... Spacing is a problem. In addition, there are at least two places where subs are absent; one of these is for over five seconds... Hope they weren't saying anything important! Oh, yeah, twice the subs appeared un-centered, going right off the screen... Am I too lenient?

Comment:

Awesome series! I gotta pick up Next and Try. NOTE: My set's box folds out; the little DVD trays for storing them when you're not watching them; two are loose, and one can't even hold a DVD now! Once I watched the third disc, I had to go and get an old CD jewel case. It's either damage due to shipping or just shoddily made.

Good video, but slight pixelation in some scenes.

Audio:

Very good, but in one episode the audio is about one second ahead.

Subtitle:

Very good, occasional typos and some off-screen lines and some lines missing.

Comment:

After you get into it, it's quiet entertaining. No must-buy, but recommended if you like funny fantasy stuff.

This is the exactly the same at the Anime Studio version. I just happen to like the MI gatefold packaging more than a simple plastic clamshell case. ^_^ To start with Video: Well its definately not DVD quality but there are no pixels or freezes so far. No problem in visually understanding whats going on. 4/5 Audio: Good quality I can hear everything I need to. A little muffled but all I had to do was turn up my volume on the TV. 4/5 Subtitles: The intro and endings are Region 1 Rips obviously. The subs during the show look like a fansub. Very good timing, only minor spelling and grammatical errors, nothing to worry about. 4.5/5 All in all a very good release and recommended.

The video quality is excelent, you see compression only on fast action scenes.

Audio:

Good quality here, but on episode 13 the audio is not synchronized with the video

Subtitle:

Some typo error, concatenated words and misspelled names. Episode 21 is missing alot of subtitles.

Comment:

Overall it is a very good release, recommended.

Video: The video quality is quite good, though I really can't comment, since I usually don't notice such things Sound: This was only a problem during one episode for me (probably exclusive to my copy) The sound was ahead of the animation. Which of course was annoying at best, but other than that one episode, the sound was just fine. Subs: They aren't that bad, the content is perfectly understandable. The only problem is that there are a few typos and sometimes the subs are REALLY early, which makes it seem like some subs don't show, but you really already read the content. Though there was once or twice where I think the subs actually didn't show at all (I don't really know, I only know a little japanese, and either the subs I saw were translated wrong, it didn't show it to me, or the characters didn't say what I thought they said.) The series is pretty good. Be warned though, it starts out kind of slow. I made the mistake of watching it just after I had finished the entire Berserk series and started out hating this series. It is a really comical version of a fantasy adventure. I will probably purchase Slayers: Next, as it is suppose to be better. I'd recommend this series to anyone looking for a good laugh, especially if you like Those who Hunt Elves.

I liked this set a lot. It seemed to me like DBZ, but better as it was more comedic and was faster paced. It was also cool how each dvd seemed to have its own plotline. video = 4/5 - really good except that if the animation moved to fast, you will notice some pixels. audio = 3.5/5 - it was all around good. some episodes it sounds smothered, but tinkering with reciever fixed it. subtitles = 4/5 - barely any timing mistakes. would have been 5 but there are 2 or 3 moments when no subs. You don't miss anything important, but it would have been nice to know what was going on for that second.
