Most of the time high quality but in a few episodes there have been some big problems with the outlines. It seems like someone has washed overthem and get them fuzzy. (Counts for all DVDs in the set and really goes on my nerves)
Audio:
Simply perfect! My little brother was going to kill me when I looked Wolfs Rain in the middle of the night an put on my soundsystem. (He had to go to work on the next day ^.^)

The DVD set would be perfect if there weren't the problems with the picture.

An uneven experience, as others have noted. For me, disk 1 had some minor pixellation in places, but nothing too distracting. The same with disk 2; I actually didn't notice a huge difference between disks 1 and 2. (My problem with disk 2 was a major defect during one of the best episodes--exploding pixels, anyone?--that was totally remedied with a replacement disk.) With disk 3, however, I did notice quite a bit of pixellation, and it became distracting. Still, it wasn't bad enough to make me regret I bought the set.

Seemed fine to me, although I don't have a major sound set-up.

I was surprised at the depth of this series and how deeply it moved me. In fact, I'll never hear the word "paradise" again without feeling a twinge in the heart. (Goofy, I know; but true.) It's all pretty powerful stuff. The credit for some of that power goes to Yoko Kanno, whose music for Wolf's Rain is so good, beautifully building on the emotional tone of the story, that it's worth watching the series just to hear the soundtrack and experience its magic. If you're a Kanno fan like I am, you'll probably love WR. If there's a flaw in this anime, it's that someone decided a quartet of recaps would make sense in the middle of the larger story. I wouldn't recommend skipping those episodes, as maybe you'll detect some sense in them; but for me, these have become skippers during subsequent watches. My TV is a Toshiba; my DVD is a Panasonic S27U.

As with many of the region 0 releases that are out there, pixilization is present. The good news about this is that the little that there is is almost non existant and only if you are looking for it will you really notice it at all. Color, shading and lighting are wonderful in this series. The colors are the flat tones that make this series have a more realistic feel to it.

I remember when this series came out one of the big things that kept getting thrown out there was "from the makers of Cowboy Bebop" in no way does this series compare story wise this series does lure you in and make you want to see what happens next. Although this series does have its share of action, it concentrates more on the story and interaction of all the caracters. At 30 episodes long on the surface some might say thats to long but episode for episode Wolfs Rain is worth the time to see it from start to finish

Straight R1 rip presented in its original 4:3 aspect ratio. With a bitrate of 6-8 Mbps, disc 1 has no pixelation or macroblocking and is superior to MI's perfect collection which shows problems during several fast-motion scenes here. (Just watch the snowstorm scene in ep. 1 or the skyscraper to the right in each OP and compare it to EZDVD's flawless video.) From episode 11 on the bitrate drastically goes down to 3-5 Mbps, the same bitrate as in MI's set. So basically, episodes 11-30 are identical to those from MI, with all the pixelation & macroblocking. It's far from ruining the show since it's not that bad. But you can see it in each OP and action scene now. Best example: recap episode 15 where the snowstorm scene is shown again, this time visibly pixelated. For some reason, EZDVD seems to have ripped the MI set from a certain point on. Fooling us consumers like that is not very cool...
Audio:
All sound options from the R1 version are included here: Japanese DD 2.0, English DD 2.0 + 5.1 surround. No problems spotted. Full score.

Comment:
Unlike MI who included loads of R1 trailers & extras with their release, EZDVD decided to only retain 1 bonus per DVD. One might think this happened in favor of better video quality. But unfortunately, that's not the case. All 30 eps. are spread over 4 double layered DVDs. Episode distribution: 7/7/8/8. Animated main menu with music from the show. No watermarks/ company logos. Extras: - disc 1: Wolf's Rain JP-promo - disc 2: Stratos 4 US-trailer - disc 3: Dragon Drive US-trailer - disc 4: textless ending ep. 26 Comes in a clear single-sized EZDVD case, holding all 4 DVDs. Nice inside cover art. FX logo on the outside. The backside description has a small typo in it: "Japanese / Enhlish dual languages with english subtitles". I'll better stick to my AV/MI gatefold. EDIT: Newer versions of this set come on just 3 DVDs and are most likely ripped from MAC. There are also reports of remastered sets released by EZDVD. See reviews above for more details. (testing equipment: Panasonic S75 multiregion DVD player, Sony Wega 25" flat screen TV, RGB scart connection, Kenwood & JBL stereo setup)

The Video in this set is incredibly good. pixelation is unheard of! even in the opening scene in the snow storm with the high speed moving train there is absolutely no pixelation! I heard the Manga International version has problems there. the picture looks a tiny bit grainy in really dark scenes but it's hardly noticable. I'd say it's just about on par with the R1 release. Now I've only watched disc 1 so far, but I would imagine that the video quality is just as good on the other discs. as for the menus, very nice and easy to navigate. I believe they are R1 rips as well
Audio:
The Audio is excellent! 3 channels to choose from, 5.1 English, 2.0 English, and 2.0 Japanese. all the audio sounded perfect, no delays, no static, nothing, it's simply perfect! an R1 rip at it's finest! I would have liked 5.1 Japanese but hey, I don't think even the R1's have that. ;D

This really is a wonderful set. Each disc has it's own set of special features, and scene selection too. I thought I would be dissappointed about the DVD case but when I got it, I really liked it. althought I miss FX's gatefold cases, these new EZ cases are really nice. the packaging design is very nice, with high quality printing (you can read the fine print). the case is clear so there's artwork on the inside as well. as for the discs, tey also have high quality images on them, it's the typical FX standards. and if you're wondering how 4 discs fit in a standard size DVD case, it's pretty simple. when you open the case there's a middle flap that holds 1 disc on each side, it's a nice clear plastice and it's nicely rounded out. it's a very effective design. also, the case says FX on it instead of EZ, so it'll fit perfectly into your FX collection. I HIGHLY reccommend this set to everyone.
