Comment:
Senkai no Senki is the sequel to Crest of Stars (Senkai no Monsho). If you liked Crest of Stars, you could do much worse than getting this set.
Story-wise, it's not as dialog-intensive as the first one; it's more space combat oriented. You may like this (I did), or not, depending on what you liked in the original series. Briefly, we follow Lafiel and Jinto as captain and crew of an assault ship. Assault ships are not especially tough customers--think back of what the cruiser Gothloth managed to do to nine of them in the first series before it got destroyed by the tenth, and you'll have an idea how much of death traps those ships are when they go toe to toe against cruisers. It does make for an exciting series, though.
Although we get less background on the Abh than we did in the first series, the interaction between the different crew members is worthy of the series. As a whole, it's very enjoyable.
For this particular set:
Video: 4.5/5 -- there's a bit of pixellation in the CGI screens, as in the first set (and I got a bit more critical of that kind of thing). Otherwise, it's pretty good.
Sound: 5/5 -- nothing to complain about. Of course, my sound setup is just a stereo TV, so I may be ill-equipped to judge.
Subtitles: 3.5/5 -- this is the most unfortunate part of this set. The subtitles of the MI version of Seikai no Monsho were fantastic. Those are OK, I guess, but they disappoint in contrast. The names are strangely translated (Lafiel == Ravel? Huh?) and some sentences need a bit of figuring out. The translators have the annoying habit to confuse fleets and ships, as well as solar systems and galaxies. You can certainly understand the story with those subs, but they're not nearly as good as the ones in Seikai no Monsho. Too bad. However, I don't think too much of the story is lost overall.
Overall: a very good set. Get it if you liked Crest of Stars--You'll most likely eat this one up. I watched the whole thing in one sitting while stuck at home with chicken pox (yes, you can get this as an adult...), and it was definitely the high point of my recovery!
