This set seems to only work on my playstation2 or my samsung dvd player. all other "inferior" dvd players seem to not be able to read it. some skipping and pauses every now and then but nothing hardly noticible to be irritating.

Almost no pixilation on the set, but a bit of skipping and lines on episodes 27 and 28. Other than that, perfect video on this set.

I could hear the japanese perfectly, but since I know only about 30 or so words of japanese, I payed more attention to the subtitles.

basically this starts off about an old ninja clan that had a special abilities which others wanted their hands on, magic takes place a lot but through out the whole series it kept my curiosity running. you get to know the past of most characters in general but more deeply those of Kurei and Recca mostly. You have though enough action to keep you listening with a great story with it. it's unique so I can't compare it to any other show. Basically if you like fighting tournments with death matches, lots of blood along with twists and magic I recommand this set I wasn't disappointed I first bought the 4 dvd set but series was so good I had to get a perfect quality version of it. hope this helps you, any questions e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to answer any of your questions

The video is overall very nice. The majority of the episodes were laserdisc and vhs rips. One episode had some problems though - the last episode on disc 4 had horizontal line blips going throuh it, like a bad vhs tape. It was watchable but can bother some people. There was no pixellation or color bleeding. The rest of it was perfectly fine and can definately pass as dvd quality.

The series itself was really fun to watch. Some parts got a little confusing, mainly the way characters transitioned from scene to scene. I would have liked to see more character developement and not as much fighting. The whole series is fighting, almost overwhelming at times. Overall very good. 84%

This series is pretty good. Overall a great HK set. Video: 4/5 Saw some telltale signs that that it may be (at least part of it) ripped from VHS. But overall, looks good. Audio: 4/5 Has that ?fake? 5.1 implementation with echoes, but if you set your equipment to 2 channels you can take care of that. Sounds good overall. Subs: 4.5/5 The subtitles are great! These are probably the best I have seen. There are some spelling mistakes and typos but not too many. What I liked most about them was that if there was a word or phrase that could not be directly translated to English they would define it for you. Content: 4/5 I liked this show a lot. It is defiantly a fighting anime. Towards the middle there is a dry area where I would liked to have seen a little more character development and interaction and less fighting but it was still fun to watch. Now this is not DBZ by any stretch. The dialog is well above that, but it is still a pretty basic show. If you don?t particularly like fighting anime, I would rate this at a 3/5.

[Update] The first reviewer's reaction is childish, therefore I have to stress this review represents a genuine personal opinion. It should be obvious to any adult that personal opinions differ - more or less - from one person to another. Upon watching this feature you might come up with completely different conclusions. [Review] Before starting, you should pay attention to the other reviews in order to get a more complete picture - most people, unlike me, like this series! The quality of video, audio and subtitles is unquestionable, you'll have no problem watching the show and understanding what's going on. Not that there's much going on - the first couple of discs are terribly boring. It gets a little better after that, but not by much. Yes, they fight, but these are not the cool real-time Kenshin-style breath taking fights. Not at all. Here they run a lot and analyze the situation for minutes; why did he fall like that? why did he jump like that? and then, after fully understanding the enemy's strategy, they deliver the final blow. Whoa, such wit. And this goes on and on for 6 discs. Would you think the baddie would kill the goodie when repeatedly given the chance? No, you'll have no more episodes then! Instead, the baddie says "nah, we'll kill them later, it's more interesting like that"! Deus ex machina and extreme childishness are the curse of this series. I was close to calling it a complete dude after the first 10 episodes or so, then I decided to watch the rest so that I can give others a fair warning based on the complete story. I'd have loved this when I was in primary school, but meanwhile I've grown up and I'm simply past the "look, boobs ... [slap] you pervert!!!" dialogue, it's neither funny nor interesting. If you liked "Blue Seed" or "Fist of the North Star" you'll probably like this anime. If your preferences are more of a "Metropolis"/"Perfect Blue" type don't waste your money and time with "Recca", get "Spirited Away" or "Memories" instead. edited by symphara on 05 Sep 2002 7:21 am edited by symphara on 11 Sep 2002 8:04 am

This anime is one of the greatest ever. Fight scenes are awesome, not boring, very well thought out. The plot is well thought out too. Each episode will make you want to see the next. The first couple episodes get you familiar w/ the characters, and then it just gets better and better. It's a must buy

The plot…well they fight…I am just kidding. I really loved this series. I really think that it's a well-crafted script and is totally worth owning. It's all about this kid named Recca who is actually from 450 years ago when Japan was feudal and Nobunaga was conquering Japan (At least, that's what they say. Those dates appear old.) The Plot revolves around weapons called madougu, which control an element of something such as water, wind, and strength; but also things like metal, plants, and paper can be controlled. Things like Ensui (the water sword), Fujin (the wind god), Saturn's ring (a nose ring that increases strength), and further weapons controlling pretty much anything you would imagine. This makes for some of the best fight scenes ever. The characters movements are fluid. Check out Fuko's moves with that Fujin. She glides over the ground just like you would expect someone controlling wind to do. And I have never seen fire so well animated as Recca's flame is. It's a very creative show, but the writer definitely was modeling Yu Yu Hakusho (but why would that be a bad thing). The character development is also very well done. The only problem is the dialogue. It is not as bad as Dragonball Z, but it is pretty much your basic “I will kill you”, “I am the #1 best fighter”. However, there are a few characters with a number of lines that are really funny. Overall, What can I say? I love fighting shows but just can't take ones without plot. This plot stands on it's own. If Flame of Recca were a scifi/fantasy book, I would read it. This show pulls out such cool, unique ideas and weaponry that it blows my mind. edited by Hanamichi on 18 Jun 2002 6:53 pm

I think this set is perfect, except for the audio. The audio isn't bad, but I would not give it a 5/5. It has a lot of hissing, but it's not very distracting. However, the subtitles are wonderful! The set I am about to review is for the 6 Dvd Set which comes in 3 cases with 2 Dvds inside each case...This is an awesome series to say the least..In my opinion I think it is a better show than Yu Yu Hakusho because it has more comedy invovlded in it..Even though the show got repetitive at times but its a fighting anime so pretty much no shocker there.. Video: 4.5/5 Like the other Reviewers mentioned this most likely was taken off a Laser Disc. Audio: 5/5 I really didn't notice anything in the bground that would cause me to give this anything lower than a 5. Subs: 4.5/5 Disc 1: Contained Engrish at times but nothing that would throw you off..The subs get better as the episode number increases. Disc 2: Way better than Disc 1 Disc 3 and 4: These were almost flawless with an occasional mispelling at times but there wasn't anything that would throw you off. Example: "Recca's falme is getting stronger"..small little thigns like that Disc 5 and 6: Was pretty much like 3 and 4 Overall, this was a well done set and I highly suggest you get this set if you can.

Flame of Recca is a delight to have purchased. There aren't any drastic complaints about it because generally the quality of the anime is wonderful. If you're not uptight about every single detail and would prefer an infallible English translation, then I suppose this one's not for you. It's worth the buy, though. Video (4/5) - The animation can get dull and scratchy at times but it's nothing that will detract from the whole experience. Audio (5/5) - No complaints. Subtitles (4/5) - They're definitely bearable. It shouldn't be anything too bad, although at times bad grammar comes into play leaving you with an expression of O_o. Ignore the occasional Engrish moments and you'll be fine.

EVerything is subbed in this, compared to the 4 DVD set which is missing episodes and has some lines unsubbed. The series is great, and I recommend it to anyone.

Flame of Recca was a really fun series. It's a blatent copy of Yu Yu Hakusho but it's still very entertaining. It unfortunately loses its story and the plot pretty much disappears as the series goes into its second half but the battles are still pretty exciting. If you're into YYH or DBZ or any other fighting anime, you'll probalby enjoy this. Flame of Recca was ripped from an LD source. Good quality but not the greatest. Audio quality is pretty good as well, though there is a little hint of reverb. Some people probably won't even notice it though. Actually, most people won't but the technical junkies probably will. The subtitles are very good. They're ripped from the Shinsen Gumi fansub. They aren't known for having the greatest translations on the planet yet everything seems good here. Occasionally sentences will have quotation marks around them but it's not very annoying. Recca is a good release. Just like watching the fansubs. Check it out if you're into fighting anime.

This series is very good. A definate buy... If you are lucky enough to get this MI set, you will be treated to six discs, with the episodes on there, but not CRAMMED on there. This is, one of the best sets I have ever seen on HKDVD. VIDEO: **** Slightly Dull but its not so dull your like agustiing your color bar on you TV, just noticable, apart from that, more or less perfect. AUDIO:**** Nice Sound, echos a bit when i hook it up to my stereo but I can get used to it in like 5 mins, so no problem there, no bangs or bleeps or any other odd noises, beautifull audio. SUBTITLES:***** OK, I must say i was impressed, the 1st few eps are perfect, then come a few typos, which are odd to say the least but not annoying, Some manes get messed up slightly (and only slightly) nothing really grusome, what got me though was around the middle of disc 2 this odd "88888" appered from time to time when no one was saying anything, odd but it doesnot disterd the otherwise near perfect subs, timing wise, no problems so far, and im nearly done watching the last disk. Flame of Recca, presented to you in Seizure Vision. Heh. This is truly the only fault with this set, wanna know what it means? well.. Video: Laser Disc ripped, it's painfully obvious at times (dulled colors and seizuring picture.) It actually doesn't look half bad most of the time, but some of the later episodes have some serious screen shaking. Up and down, left and right, in any possible direction. It isn't a big deal, and easily ignore - These screen shakes are (TM) of Laser Disc rips and only occur during scene changes, for those who have seen the series, you should be able to guess why some of the later episodes seem to seizure. Audio: Fake 5.1 Surround, but with less echo than the Berserk set. Not bad by any means but not great. Subtitles: Quite good. Princess -> Hime after episode 10, and, despite the abundance of misspellings, they're really quite good. Ignore the attempt at figuring out someone's tax return in episode 8 and you're set. Overall: Despite what I said about the video - it isn't bad at all. This set actually comes highly recommended, as it is an entertaining show, video is quite good for a majority of the time, and the subtitles are quite good and well timed.

Comment:
i have only watched 4 of 6 discs so far and i like what i see so far. Video was a laser disc transfer and was nicely done. The subtitles were taken from fansubs and are very good althought there are some typos/spelling errors. The Audio was great i didnt notice any humming or echo in the background. I highly recommend this set!
