Of course the video is going to reflect the age of the anime, but it still looks great.

Audio:

No problems with sound at all.

Subtitle:

Right on time and no mistakes noticed on the subtitles. Great!

Comment:

I love Fist of the North Star. Yes I can admit, its a bit bloody and gory. For some reason, a lot of the parts just cracked me up. I'm not usually into brutal, bloody anime , but this one had me glued. A must see for anime watchers only because I think its a classic...lol well to me it is.

Definitely taken from a videotape. I don't know if it is just my copy or if it's supposed to be part of the film, but several scenes had the color washed out. It would be fine one second, then the color would just fade into bluness... then after a little bit the colors would go back to normal.

Audio:

Top notch cheesey fun. Audio quality is decent. I had no problems with the sound.

Subtitle:

I didn't check the subtitles. I know there are Chinese subs, but would even have preferred if there were engrish subs on it.

Comment:

This film is very...interesting. There isn't much thinking involved, just plain brutality. For some, it is mindless fun, for others it's mindless violence. Regardless of what anyone thinks, it is a film that any anime fan should watch at least just once.

Video 3/5: the video is not as bad as the other reviews might suggest. It?s definitely not from DVD. But I think it?s better than video. Audio 4/5: I watched it on my tv, I don?t have any fancy home cinema system, but everything sounded o.k to me. Contents 5/5: I?m a huge fan of this movie, it?s one of my all time favorites. I saw this movie when I was 16, nine years ago. And when I saw it for $ 9 I had to get it. If you already own the tape, don?t bother getting this, since the video quality isn?t that much better, but if you like me want to see this classic again, you can?t go wrong for $ 9.

Video: The evidence points to a copy of the old Streamline video tape. It looks like the copy they used had been viewed a few times before they made the transfer. I didn't have any problem with pixelation as mentioned by a previous reviewer. That may just have to do with the player differences. Audio: Not that bad. Not that great... pretty middle of the road quality. Subs: The only english on this disc is the dub. It's interesting to note that there are two copies of the movie on this disc. You can't change between audio streams or subtitles while watching the movie. You get to choose which version you want to watch at the title screen, either the English dub version or the Japanese language, Chinese subbed version (these subs cannot be turned off, they are hard subs). I only watched the English language version so I'm not too sure of the quality of the Chinese subbed version.

Hmmm.... When I say my VHS tape looks better I'm not kidding. This is basicly an OK transfer from the Streamline released video tape. But unlike my tape this DVD has a lot of Pixelation....... Video quality- As stated above, lots of pixelation in action/fighting scenes (so basicly 70% of the movie, heh). other than that it looks exactly like my VHS tape, which isn't all that bad. Audio quality- Audio is OK 2 channel stereo. It's passable, but there is some dropout and his here & there. Subs- Well it's a dub...... This is an OK release. I wish a US company would release a r1 DVD of this movie with all the trimmings though......

Lets start with the most important notice, there is no English subbed version on this DVD. Only an English dub, and a Chinese hardsubbed Japanse dub version. The English dubbed version is 4:3, while the Japanse dubbed version is (not 16:9, but smaller black bars) widescreen. video Looks OK, probably a DVD transfer. Doesn't look that great though, but thats probably because its a pretty old show. The English version looks a tad better then the Japanse/Chinese sub version thoug, there's less pixelation. (though it's a DVD-9, something very special for an AS release) audio Sounds OK, little humming here and there, might be because of the old-ness (...) of the show... subs Well since there are only chinese subs, lets make a quick summery of those. I can't read Chinese. . . . . . . . . . but it did came to my notice that a LOT of linese weren't subbed, so they probably suck. I'd say, only buy this DVD if you're into dubs, read Chinese subs, or understand Japanese. edited by Markaveli on 18 Mar 2002 9:04 am

This was my first anime(i was 12), and ive loved this dub ever since. Most people dont seem to appreciate its greatness, oh well. It is the original Streamline Version. Probably a VHS rip but it looks really good if so. There is some breakup when there's a lot of action on screen. This also contains a japanese language letterboxed version of the film. Unfortunately there are only chinese subs for that. Both versions look and sound fine, not exceptional or even DVD quality, but it is an old movie. In my opinion this is a more than acceptable release, and a great nostalgia trip for old fans of the streamline version.
