Hitomi Kanzaki, is your average ordinary school girl, except that she\'s able to use Tarot cards to tell fortunes. Then one day she sees visions of a huge mecha, and visions of a boy battling a creature. These visions become reality, as the boy, Van, and the dragon he\'s battling somehow enter into her world. He defeats it with Hitomi\'s help. Hitomi and Van are then transported back to the world of Gaea. Van turns out to be the young king of a small realm on Gaea, Fanellia. The peace in Fanellia is broken by an attack from the Zaibach Empire. The only hope of the small kingdom\'s survival from the overwhelming attack is to call upon the aid of Escaflowne, the legendary defenders of Fanellia. Still, The Zaibach forces prove too strong with their powerful guymelefs (mechs). Van along with Hitomi are transported by a bright light into another kingdom. And thus begins The Vision of Escaflowne, as Van and Hitomi encounter different friends and enemies. (Handsome Allen Schezar, a knight of the high skys. the beautiful Princess Millerna Aston, and Van\'s devoted companion the cat-girl Merle.) They search together for a way to defeat the Zaibach forces and to save Fanellia from being taken over.
