Reviews for Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi Perfect Collection

The image quality of this set is simply amazing. Disc 1 being a direct R1 rip was pretty much a done deal, but Disc 2, having compacted 2 R1 DVDs into one... it's amazing how you can't tell any of the pixellation in any of the episodes. FX is simply the standard in HK imports. Crisp, clear vibrant colors and not a single flaw I can tell with the naked eye. Beautiful.

Audio:

Both Japanese and English dubs sound great. Of course, stick with the Japanese one (the English one seems to be a bit on the "bland" side.. not much emotion or feeling). Very clear and very pleasing to listen to. ^^ So far so good with this set. ^^

Being an R1 rip, finding flaws in subtitles are usually the trickiest part of the review. This is one of those times I wish there was a 4.99 on the scale because there was only one to two flaws I really noticed... but I'll give it a 5 simply because 1 or 2 flaws isn't worth taking the rating down .5. Whenever either two people were talking at the same time... or there was a sign in the background and someone was talking, the subs would only translate one voice, which I found pretty irritating because I wanted to know what was going on throughout the entire series. Most of the time, the signs were what was translated first (like in the previews or a couple of scenes throughout the series). I don't know.. maybe I'll just switch over to English dubs for the answers... *shivers*. The only other thing I noticed was in the last episode... when they were playing the ending theme (the original opening theme for AYA), the subs were in the middle for some strange reason. Not too irritating, but it did kind of get in the way of some scenes. Thats about it. Otherwise, the subs were very grammatically sound and completely understandable.

A few of the little things I noticed: * There's a couple of extras on this set, the biggest one being a Christmas special entitled "Miyuki". I don't think it was ever meant to tie into the series, but it was a nice little extra. It kind of reminds me of "Ah! My Goddess" and how Keiichi and Belldandy met each other. ^^ The other extras are a bunch of trailers for other Geneon series. * In Disc 2, there is no menu for the extras. It simply goes to a continuous clip of the trailers. Also, I had my disc in Japanese dub when I played the extras. The sound for the extras shows up only when you play the English audio track. Not sure why it's like that, but just wanted to give most of you a heads up. * There was a DDR reference!!! =D Haha... sorry I love DDR. * This set... is probably the PRIME example of how to make a near-perfect anime dvd set. The box art looks awesome, the discs themselves look great too... and the complete series is on 2 discs with no signs of pixellation. This... is a set worth buying. Ai Yori Aoshi: Enishi is an amazing series, following up the original Ai Yori Aoshi. If you loved Ai Yori Aoshi, you will love this anime too.. GET IT NOW! =P - Tony

Just think back to those glorious days when the first AYA set by FX came out. Are you doing that? Well, the video on this set is just as gorgeous- vivd colours and nice, crisp lines. I watched this really close to the TV and I couldn't see anything wrong with it! I don't like to say a set's perfect, but... Details: 12 eps, 2 Discs, 4/8 split. Animated menus.

Audio:

English and Japanese stereo are both provided and both sound really great! No problems experienced.

Subtitle:

Here you get the R1 subs in a yellow font. 2 subtitles are provided- English and English lyrics/text. Actually, the song lyrics alternate between episodes from English to Japanese.

Extras are: Disc 1- Special "Miyuki" Christmas episode ***YAY*** Aoi dressed as Santa!!(15 mins), 3 Geneon trailers (Ikki Tosen, Dokkoida and ROD TV.) Disc 2- 3 Geneon trailers (Burn Up Scramble, Paranoia Agent and Popotan) If you like Ai Yori Aoshi, and you've seen the quality of the first set (which looks stunning on my TV too) then you shouldn't hesitate to get this set! I just hope that a 3rd series is made... please!!!!
