The video was probably the best part about this. I absolutely love the animation and it was crisp and clear. I didn't note any pixelation what so ever.
Audio:
It wasnt perfect, for the most part I switched between Japanese and English (mainly english). Sometimes it was just hard to hear over the backround, it wasnt to major though, considering I loved all the backround music.

Comment:
Overall, this was pretty well done. The only problem I saw was the subtitles, but that can be avoided with the english track. There wasn't any extras in this disk, but for me, that's alright, I usually don't bother with them if they are there. And the menu could have been nice, but the picture in the backround was very blurred and hard to make out. Its a screenshot type thing of the scene where Utena and Anthy are dancing in the Rose Bed. Also, I like the dub on this, thats a big change for me. This movie was very interesting for me to watch, please note, I watched the series first. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but towards the end (and I don't mean the car bit) I liked it. The music was also great, mostly it was just remixes from the orginal series. Also, Chu-Chu made an apperence. Which rocks.

A huge step up from the TV series in terms of animation production, but there are some flaws most likely due to anime studios transfer process, slight pixelation during dueling scenes and believe me you will notice it because they didn't bother to put subtitles during those scenes.
Audio:
Audio is the best part of this disc. I watched with the japanese audio, but obviously I had to watch my fair share with the english track, because of the missing subtitles.

Comment:
First off this movie is stand alone movie and no previous knowledge is needed to view it, but I recommend waching the series first since there is a lot of hidden things that pay homage to the series, but thats were its simularities end and I truly don't know what the hell was going on in the second half of this movie, I think the director was on drugs during this part and in no way is it related to the TV series with should not be missed.

the video is quite crisp, but gets pixellated when high amount of movement occurs. this is a pity indeed since utena has such stunnning visuals and direction. also, the infamous black/white orizontal breaking lines are visible
Audio:
the audio is recorded too low, generating the humming in the background. this is a common problem with older animestudio releases (not Mac and As/MI).

Comment:
all the extras were romoved but still, heavy pixellation occurs. the menu simply sucks, there's a still of anthy and utena dancyng all segmented and blurred, like if something went wrong creating the menu and the moving clip got freezed. the subs were a great disappointment.

This movie is really good and relies on all 39 episodes from Utena. The graphic are really something to see, simply stuning. There is some fantasy scene is it wich makes it a real fairy tale story. Very recommanded

Did I just get a bad copy or what? A very distracting 'low hum noise' throughout the whole movie! Bad authoring? Going from stereo to 5.1? Ive experienced this same problem on my 5.1 surround system with other titles:photon and Geo Armor. Depending on the type of audio system you own, will depend on whether this is unnoticeable, or intolerable.Comments?

Before you read this review, I'd just like to say I own the entire Utena seies on fansub, including this movie. I own every R1 DVD possible, also including the movie. One day, I said "I wonder what the HK discs are like?". So, I bought the HK discs too. I am the biggest nerd anyone has ever met. Video-- (4.5/5) Very nice, indeed! Sometimes it got REALLY blurry, but it was pretty tolerable, all in all. Audio-- (5/5) No problems here! Pretty much perfect scoring, other than one scene where it dies for less than a second. (I am being REALLY nitpicky here. REALLY!) It also comes with a dub track! Subtitles-- (5/5) Excellent. No problems whatsoever! Content-- (5/5) Utena is one of my favorite anime serieses of all time, and the movie is equally good. Though, this disc was a waste of money for me, seeing as how I own the R1, and this is a R1 rip, I would suggest this disc to anyone looking to save a little cash. *coughcheapskatecough*
