a few pixalated scenes here and there, but nothing too bad. Very good for an R1 rip.
Audio:
Great audio, very clear. But a few scenes where the volume either increases of decreases.

One of my very favorite series. I would give it an 8.9 out of 10. Not as funny as Slayers, but funnier then Orphen, and on par with Gokudo. If you like sword and sorcery animes, watch this one.

There was noticeable pixelization during fighting scenes and generally during fast paced scenes. Still, the rest of the video was crystal clear. No noticeable problems other then pixelization really.

I only listened to the dub track. The voice work in this series is pretty good with only Merril's voice actress sounding overly grating. But then, that's just the type of character Merril is so you can hardly blame the voice actress. Other then that, this was as good a dub job as you're going to get.

Overall, this was a fun little series from Ryo Mizuno, creator of Lodoss Wars. I bought this set to compliment my Lodoss War and Legend of Crystania DVD's but make no mistake, this series relates in no way to the aforementioned pair. The only thing they really share in common is the same monsters and the same author. Also, I read somewhere that this series takes place on the Continent of Alecrast which was mentioned in Lodoss War and Crystania but there is no mention of the Continent this series takes place on. All you get is the name of few cities and they don't really shed any light as to whether this is connected in any way to the Lodoss World or not. Another thing to mention is that the series is also very episodic. This is not to say that there isn't an overall story arc but it is only alluded to in a few episodes here and there until the three part series finale. However, the characters are developed really well and the comedy is top notch and that will carry you through the individual episodes. I typically don't like episodic anime as I tend to view them in a marathon session but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this series. Overall: 4.0

I found this set to have a bit more pixellation than a lot of other releases I've seen. At least once per episode during a pan of high detailed artwork is when it usually happens. Other than the pixellation issue (which is actually minor in the grand scale of things) the picture is excellent. The colours are vivid with absolutely no bleeding and there aren't any funky glitches to be seen anywhere. The bit rate on all three discs runs from 2.8 up to 4.5 MBPS which is slightly below average but to be expected with 8 episodes per disc. I thought about giving this three stars for video quality but the pixellation has such a minor effect on the enjoyment of the series that I compromised with the four.
Audio:
I only spot checked the Japanese language track but what I heard was top notch. The dubs are the ADV ones (complete with Hilary Haag for Vicious). Actually, this whole set is ripped from the ADV release... you get to read the closing credits with every episode. The English language track is perfect without any buzzing, pops, or other funny noises to distract you.

This is a great series. It's kind of like Captain Tylor meets Lodoss War. Each disc has 8 episodes and one preview for another series. The chapters are perfectly set up with breaks at the opening credits, the beginning of an episode, mid-episode, closing credits and coming attractions. One comment on the story is that I wish they had spent more time working the main story arc and ignored one or two of the side story. There's one episode that seems to be dedicated to fanservice that really doesn't add much to the overall story (although Melissa is pretty hot in it). Overall, this set is definitely worth it in spite of some pixellation issues during a number of pan shots.

I was waiting for this to come out for the longest time, had heard so much about how funny this series is-I was not disappointed, if you liked the Slayers-YOU WILL LOVE THIS!! It has some elements in common-a medivial D & D theme, shrine maidens, a perverted apprentice magician (Louie). Sweet. Best to spend a little extra money and just get the R1 release, though.
