Video:
Video is Grainy...maybe a bad LD rip, but it's understandable cause of the age of the show (1972) a little dark in places, red bleeds a lot during sunset scenes, explosions, breast fire attacks, destruction scenes with lots of reds and pinks but completely watchable
Audio:
hizzy sound thoughtout but doesn't drown out the audio, audio is a little on the low side, a little bothersome, age of show excuse here

Comment:
This is my favorite classic giant robot anime, a classic by any stretch of the word. I wish they had done a better work with it and gotten a better source for audio/video but a keeper none the less...they should remake this set with the recently released R2s and get some better subs. A great series with a less than stellar presentation on hk dvd, I demand a remaster!!!! :) menu is simple a still image with "paly all" option, chapters option and subtitles(english, chinese, none) chapter breaks are one per episode, only one opening sequence at the start and next episode and ending sequence at the end of the disc..disc 1 has 11 episodes, discs 2 and 3 5 eps and disc 4 10 episodes This set introduces us to the cast of of the greatest giant robot series ever conceived, Go Nagai's Mazinger Z...Koji, his brother Shiro, Boss and his gang (Nuke y Mucha) Prof Yumi and his dauther Sayaka the Professors and the Photon Energy Lab, the depository of the Super Alloy Z, Japanium...the building alloy for the super robot Mazinger Z...and the enemies of mankind, Doctor Hell (you can't get an eviler name than that) and his henchman the half man, half woman Baron Ashura and their soldiers, the Iron Mask army, who from their Submarine base Saludo sent from Birdos Island in the Agean sea, sends his mechanical monsters, the Kikaiju to destroy Japan and take over the world...you get Baron Ashura and Dr Hell trying everthing on their power (extorsion, blackmail, assasination, robot impersonators, and giant robots of every kind) to finish Koji and Mazinger Z...

4 - Great. You have to remember when watching this that this is a 1970's super robot show, so it is in the original state. The only thing wrong is the grainyness, but seeing as how I have not seen the original on tv, I cannot tell weither it's from the ripping, or from the original.
Audio:
4.5 - Good audio. A little buzzy, but I think that's from the original show, and not from the DVD (rated it lower on the chance that it was the DVD)

Comment:
Video 4/5 - Is good. It looks grainy, but you have to remember that this is a super robot show, and the majority of them are from the 1970's. This set has no openings and endings. Audio 4/5 - Once again, the fact that this is a 1970's show applies. Subtitles 3.5/5 - HK originals. While they are bad, and I mean they butcher grammer bad, they are understandable. Ashura is Alsa, etc., but if you pay attention to the names they say in Japanese, and not the names that they give them in the subtitles, then it's okay. Overall - Not that bad if you don't mind HK original subtitles. All of the imperfections that are really noticable in the audio and video are from the original show, and because this imperfections were in the original too in most cases, are not bad.
