Reviews for Naruto Part 1-3 Limited Edition Boxset

I thought the video was crisp, clean and colorful for most of the series. I did have a problems with it though, there were a couple episodes with the lines/ patterns metioned in other reviews. (around 7-10) Also my disc 8 skips every 2-10 seconds and is unable to read the disc after certain points in every episode. I have tried running through them backwards, forwards, slow and fast and nothing helps they always die very quickly. Note: this is only for 1 disc, i've had no other problems except the lines/ patterns metioned earlier. I'm going to see if I can get my money back because I think it's a defect

Audio:

I don't understand japenese but I can hear the emotions in the voices extremely well(especially in Naruto's). I really liked the audio because of this. You can hear how the episodes change quickly with the music although the music can be a bit too dramatic.

Subtitle:

Dam, after just watching S-cry-ed's subtitles and then Naruto's i'm appaled. It's almost as though they gave a japenese a guy a couple dictionairy's and set him to work. The grammer is atrocious, here are a couple examples; can=can't, can't=can, I=you, you=I, I=him/her, and tons more problems. It starts off in the first disc set as being very hard to understand the full meaning of the subs but you get used to it later on. I've found that the longer the series progresses the better the subbing gets.(3rd series and a bit of 2nd is actually decent to good subbing)

Comment:

All and all one of my now favorite series, you just gotta love Naruto and his buddies. Has lots of plot twists, the backrounds for the characters are massive and real-ish. Characters are real. There is lots of humor, mainly situated around 'perverted stuff' but still quite funny. The ninja technique and physical moves are some of the most innovative and interresting stuff i;ve seen. Especially chakura and how the body interacts with it and uses it.

picture was extremely clear, however on a few episodes there were faint lines, it's not that noticeable at first. there's also a episode i think on the last disc that looks as if it is old, like the images are somehwat fuzzy and pale. other than that, it's good

Audio:

the audio was pretty good for me. sounded very clear

Subtitle:

subtitles are always changing their terms for ninja moves and character names. lots of misspellings, but you can get the jist of it at the same time.

Comment:

i love this anime so much, but i wish subtitles were a little better.

There is suprisingly little pixellation on this disc and I'm still marking it down one star. On the third disc, there is a faint pattern of verticle line running throughout the picture. I've checked it on three different players and it's there on all three of them During the ghost of the mists story arc, I thought the colours were washed out but then there was a flashback and the colours were very vivid and clear. It took me a moment to realize that the muted colours were the directors way of showing the battle in the mists. Pay close attention to the time when the colour saturation returns to normal. It's used to bring home a moral to the story in a very classy fashion.

Audio:

I did notice one or two hiccups in the sound so far in the three discs. Almost not worth marking down a half point for but then again... 5 stars is perfect and this just misses that mark in the audio department.

Subtitle:

Oh well... Engrish sums this up pretty well. There were a few instances when a character said "can" and I'm pretty sure they meant "can't" and the names get messed up from time to time. The overall meaning isn't hard to grasp with these translations but I'm betting that fansubs will probably carry the subtexts of what is said much more clearly. The subs are very easy to read and there are very few spelling mistakes. The only issue I have is with the grammar being weak.

Comment:

Disc 4 update: only the very beginning of episode 5 on disc four is there. It feels like a MAJOR story part was missed in the bits that weren't there. It's still great but I was cheesed off to have this crucial story part left out. There are a few more parts that freeze in the second set. I don't know if I got a defective set or not. The third set plays flawlessly. Quality is consistent through all three parts of this set. The only complaint I have is where the discs stop playing in the second set. I'm able to restart and fast forward past these parts but that is the only problem I'm having and only on discs 1 and 2 of the second set. I LOVE this series. I would like break points after the opening credits so I don't have to scan through them every time I watch an episode. I would also like to be able to skip past the recap that happens at the front of some episodes. Some of the recaps include new footage that wasn't in the previous episode which can be a bit irritating as well. If you sit through the whole opening, you can have up to five minutes of repeated footage. If you skip the recap you can frequently miss some new story points. If someone has a crazy amount of free time it would be great to have each story arc of this series edited into a movie format so the viewer wouldn't have to sit through the recaps all the time. Before I bitch and grip too much, if I only got to see one episode per week, these recaps would be welcome. The do a great job of keeping the viewer up to date and I found that after going a week without watching an episode of this it was great to have that reminder of what happened. So far I'd have to give this a thumbs up just because there really isn't any other way to watch the series other than downloading fansubs. This is one of the most compelling series I've watched in quite some time. Even my wife is really into this one.

Video is average. Starting from second boxset (eps 26 I think) it was clear that the source was not good...Some sort of TV Rip with background noise. If you compare it with Fan sub, it's way below that level. Edit: Video became really good for ~20 eps (after eps~50) then back to initial quality (lines and noises). Annoying.

Audio:

Edit: Audio is good. Not much to say about it. There are some glitch and skips but hardly.

Subtitle:

Well eventhough the main characters name was correctly spelled... There was a lot of mistakes and "engrish": He instead of I, Kabuto is Dou, Orochimaru is Oebimaru, Gara is aera and the list goes on...Plus a lot of expressions that do not make sense. Edit: Starting from eps 44, the subs became REALLY good. For those of you familiar with the fansubs, those are directly ripped from ANBU. Still some mistakes but no way near the initial 1-43 eps, even the color of the subs changed toa ligh easy on the eye yellow.

Comment:

This is a great serie. If you have a divx player, you might stick with the fansubs until a "Perfect" version is released. Otherwise, if you don't mind the video quality and the crappy (1-44) subs, go for it. The box looks great and the anime art is awesome.
