Typical, good quality FX compression quality. Very little pixelation, even during the large, action-intensive, 3D/2D blended space battles. As with another reviewer, I haven't seen the video quality of the MAC 4-disc release, however, I don't see how the video quality could be better than this release to the point of justifying another $7.
Audio:
-Pheeeeeee-nomenal. I'm the biggest sucker for Vandread's soundtrack (especially the opening and ending themesongs, which I continued to sit through even on the last episodes), and it sounds great cranked up on the big speakers. No distortion in the bass (exposions, techno songs, etc). The english and japanese audio tracks also both sound great, with nice, consistent volume levels throughout.

Vandread really came out of no-where, and shocked the heck out of me. I was expecting a nice, light, unoriginal.. but well animated show to pass an hour with every night for a couple of weeks. What I ended up with was a -very- well animated show, with a surprisingly good storyline, and wonderful character designs. I was constantly reminded of Full Metal Panic throughout the show... because of the clear, bright animation, and also because of the colorful characters, and excellent mix of comedy, action, and the odd dash of drama. I can't recommend this series enough... don't underestimate it like I did originally. It's worth every penny, and I'm already looking forward to watching it through again.

The video on this set is very good and clear most of the time, the only time the video pixelates through all 3 discs is the second half of disc 2 and its reasonably minor.
Audio:
Both Japanese and English tracks work very well, i dont know how it would sound on a high end sound system but it sounded fine on my stereo tv. The only complaint I have is that the English dub sounds so incredibly average it makes you want to bite your tongue.

Vandread is mostly a light hearted and comic anime, it does sport some ecchi but never pushes it to hard like some animes do. Most of the time it will keep you in a good mood, the humor between men and women somewhat reminded me of Ranma. Only a few sad moments in this anime, but nothing that really ruins the mood of the series. Overall its definately worth getting...

This is quite a good set the video is clear to a degree - I didn't really notice anything major wrong until on the the second disk it started stuttering and crashing - turned out to be a DVD rom drive problem as it worked fine on my DVD player(not sure what was wrong though all my other disks are fine although I noticed a problem with the FLCL DVD from FX as well - plays on the DVD player not on my PC(seems to be recurring on the batch as I tried 2 FLCL DVDs) the first and third disk were fine though
Audio:
I remember the soundtrack to this very well as I got it a few years back bring back memories very clear no problems until the aforementioned stuttering(but this was fine on the player)

Comment:
This is a great set for the price very nicely set up and clear to use. The only problems with this set was that the higher compression may have lowered the quality but I found no problems with it, Maybe the MAC set is better(4 disks rather that 3) but I really can't say depends on the justification to spend another 7 dollars for little more. The anime itself is great funny and crazy at the same time well worth watching for this price.

Basically, the picture quality is pretty decent. However, there are a lot of times when the outlines of the characters become 'blurry'. Their faces sometimes look 'distorted' as the outlines become unclear. Not much pixelations. The battle scenes are actually without pixelations, to my surprise. It could be my set but on all three discs, during the 2nd layer change, those parts will pause for about 2 seconds before continuing on.
Audio:
I listened to the Japanese audio only. The volume seems to get soft and loud all the time throughout episode 1-3. After that, it gets better. It's not noticeable on disc 2 and 3. Other than that, no complains.

This is a really fun series. It is not hardcore mecha. The animation is really up-to-date. It never fails to give me a '3-D' action fun during the battling scenes. It's especially cool when the vanguard merges with the dreads. For each new dread merged, there is a new transformation. You never fail to have fun throughout the whole show. It really amuses me that men see women as monsters and women see men as aliens and babarians. Though sometimes, it's kind of true, isn't it? :P J/K Extras: #1: Not sure how to describe but I guess it's an alternative opening. However, all the narrations are only in Japanese audio. No subtitles #2: Trailers of: Armitage, Gatekeepers. Soul Taker #3: Armitage, Gatekeepers, Hellsing, X TV, Fushigi Yuugi Eikoden *NB: Apart from the extra on #1, all the extras on #2 and #3 have a lot of pixelations. As for previews to the next episodes, none. After the ending, it just goes straight into the next episode.
