The video Is really really good. Most people might be put off by the fact that this show looks like speed racer but the storyline is really really good so much so that it surpasses some storylines made today. There are two angles but more on that at the bottom, but what I can tell you now is that it gets a four because the episodes are not complete. As one Reviewer said, the thing about sides and zeon's fight for independence is not in the english version but in the japanese version, (again more on that later). That and the episodes just start without any review of the last episode. The intro is at the beginning of the first episode on the disk and the ending is on the last episode of the disk. I'm not put off by that because I usually fast forward or skip the intro's and the endings in anime anyway. Visually, though, the show looks amazing for when it was made and the video quality of the disks don't disappoint.
Audio:
The Japanese and English Tracks are included. The english version has "enhanced" sound effects. I put enhanced because it's a mixture of both the original sound effects and new ones that sound similar to the ones in the Movie Trilogy's special edition sound effects. But while english sound effects may different they are not to the point that the classic gundam sound effects are lost but are a little distracting if you know what they should sound like. The English dub is really good and the Original Japanese track is superb.

Comment:
The disks feature two angles the are only accessible from the main menu. If you pick the Japanese language option you will be be treated to the Japanese text for the intro, title card, eyecatcher and preview. And if you pick the English language on the main menu then you will get the English text versions of the intro, title cards, eyecatcher(because it's different than the original), and preview. The japanese angle is the only way that you can see the zeon ships blowing up a poorly drawn colony with the announcer talking about zeon's war for independence and it's not present in the english version's angle (even though it exists) whatsoever. Overall I would say get this if you don't have the R1 version, want to see the Japanese version and speak Japanese know enough about what's going on to see it without the subs, or have seen the show before. However if this is your first time seeing this classic series watch the English version if that's your first language or don't know Japanese only because the subs suck. It gets the same point across as the Japanese version minus the "enhanced" sound effects and it's one of the better anime dubs you'll see.

Giving the video a 3 because they left out the annoying side story that plays before every episode on the R1's is not a responsible way to review a dvd. Personally i'm glad they left it out. I hate having to skip through that crap to get to the episodes. If you really want to know the background in the intro do a 5 minute google search. The video quality was perfect for me. I never saw one second of pixelation.
Audio:
The other reviewer says it's pretty standard sound and again gives it a 3. There was absolutely no reason to give this set less than a 5. The sound was perfect for 2.0. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

This is a great series for any Gundam fan. The only real down part to it is the age. I normally don't mind old series but this is almost speed racer quality lol. Once you watch it for a while you won't notice as much and the series will be very enjoyable.

They should have titled this one the NOT so Perfect Collection, because unfortunately, that?s the case. MAC, who?s sets are usually done quite well, kinda dropped the ball on this one. Imagine if you will, Star Wars, without the beginning intro text, giving us, the viewer, the foundation of which to watch the movie from. Sure, you?d eventually figure out what was what, but it still wouldn?t be the same. Here in lies the problem with this set, as for the English language part, there?s opening credits, then it goes straight into each episode, minus the intro about the ?Sides? and the fight for the sides to become independent, and the war, etc? And in the Japanese version, the intro is there, but there are no subs for that section. Oh, and for all those curious, the Japanese with English subs, is the same CRAPPY 5 disc version, Japanese language only, set that?s selling for sixty some odd bucks on ebay. And the subs are quite bad, not being the worst HK subs I?ve had to try and muddle through, but pretty darn close. As for the video, it?s pretty standard HK stuff, with marco blocking and some graininess, but not the worst I?ve seen, and if the intro had been included, I?d be the first to tell you to go out and get this set, as for the money, it?s well worth it.

Pretty standard sound, on both tracks

For the money, and if you?re not put off by the missing episode intros, and have some idea as to the basic back story, and don?t mind listening to the English language track, then hey, this set is for you, otherwise, steer clear.
