Overall:
Video:
Not too bad. About the same as the 3DVD set for the rest of the series. The quality seems sub-DVD, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it VHS quality. It's somewhat... I don't know... -not sharp-. The colors are fine... but you really don't get any crispness out of the image, especially in the darker scenes.
Audio:
Not bad, not great. Just barely above average. Wolf's Rain's soundtrack is to die for... and the japanese voice track is very well done.
Subtitle:
Yowch. Same ol' fan-sub quality of the latter 2 discs in the episodes 1-26 set of DVDs. Lot of Engrish, and the subtitles flash up so quick, that you sometimes can't make sense of the words before you're onto the next sub-par sub. Oh well... good enough to get by on until the R1 release, way down the road.
Comment:
If you're a fan of the show... and I mean -super- fan, that can't wait for the R1 sourced releases of this series, then you can get by on the badly subbed series and OVA sets.
