Some times there is a horizontal line-e-ness on things that move fast and (in the early epsiodes mostly) the screen shakes slighty when the scene changes like in the first R1 release of Evangelion. Evan though that all sounds kind of bad the overall video quality is very good.
Audio:
Good sound quality. The soundtrack is mostly good though the music for the fight scenes is almost cheesy. The english dub is not the best in the world but is far from the worst, if you nomaly watch anime with the dub then you won't mind this one.

*Notes *I watched this series on a COBY brand DVD player (DVD-224 model) with AV cable on a 25 inch RCA TV *Series and moive are R1 rips. *There is Director's commentary with the english subs for the final 3 epsiodes and movie The series it self: Wow great series with deep characters and and a good story filled with symbolism and plot twists. Though things get surreal at times do to things that could have been pure symbolism getting logically explained meaning that it's not always easy to tell what's real and what's not. I think the surreal-ness added to the fun of the show but I'm sure not everyone would agree with me. More on the down side of things there are some repetitive parts not only in the flash back that is used for the Utena characters past but also in the animation used for the fight scenes and in other kinds of scenes as well. That's all forgivable seeing as it really doesn't get in the way much of enjoying a series that almost does everything else so well. "Almost?" Yes you see their are a few filler epsiodes that are just to over the top with weirdness, I remember one epsiode in particular moo that hit the wrong tone and came off as dumb and out of place. Though overall despite being in the "magical girl" genre Revolutionary Girl Utena turns out to be a must see for any anime fan with an open mind. : )

There was noticeable pixelization present in the fast moving scenes. The first few episodes also featured quite a bit of graininess. It got better from the second disc onwards though. The animation style used here is quite unique in that it gives you an actual fairy tale feel. The characters are all elegantly styled and look far more graceful then they should. It's a staple of shoujou anime but this one seems to take it to extremes. It isn't a bad animation style persay but just be ready to deal with more pretty boys then you can shake a stick at.

No problems here. Audio is perfect. The English Dub of this show is surprisingly true to the subtitles. It doesn't stick to them religiously but it is pretty close. As for the dub itself, it isn't the best job out there. Thankfully, Nanami's voice actress sucks so bad that you will pretty much feel like giving Oscars to everybody else.

This show surprised the hell out of me. It was pretty much an impulse buy for me and I didn't know what I was getting into. Then I went out and read a review. One thing from the review has stuck with me since then, 'this show is from the creator of Sailor Moon,' and 'this show is meant to be what Sailor Moon was supposed to be.' As you can imagine, I immediately tabled it for viewing at a later date. In the meantime I ran across works that were far inferior to this one in terms of plot. I finally got around to viewing this show this past Tuesday and I was blown away. There is so much in this anime in terms of symbolism, foreshadowing and mystery that it immediately cemented itself as one of my favorites. The only other show that had this much story to tell is RahXephon and I can pretty much say that the characters in this show are far more developed then Xephons. That probably has to do with a higher episode count though. The characters you are going to become familiar with are introduced in typical anime fashion. One episode is dedicated to each of them and their pasts and hidden secrets are extrapolated on. However, this show is unique in that it takes what you learn about the characters in those opening episodes and goes further with it in future episodes. The characters are fleshed out much more in this fashion and you really get into their minds. However, this is also where the show is at its weakest because if you can't stand the characters at the beginning then you're out of luck since that's all you're going to see. Another weakness of the show is repetition. The little fairytale about Utena's childhood is repeated ad nauseum. Hell, I can appreciate stylistic decisions like this but after the fifth time I saw that little fable, I was ready to throw my remote at the tv screen. There is also a great deal of repetition in various other scenes but that is less annoying then the fairytale. And now, let's get to the shoujo overtones of this show. It isn't blatantly, hit you over the head Will and Grace, obvious which was a bit of a relief. You have the obvious relationship between Anthy and Utena but it is actually pretty understated up till the last arc begins. And even then you are left guessing as to what they actually mean to each other. Hell, you may even come away with a different reaction then the one I had. That is what makes the show great though. It is full of mystery and will leave you guessing right up till the end. The ending is also pretty well done and indicative of the type of show this is. Overall, I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. It doesn't get a whole lot better then this and I can't believe I'm saying that about a Shoujo anime.

It took me a little bit to get into this one, but i like it. If you get a little confused as to why things seem unexplained just wait. Things usually become explained in time for anything.

The video is a R1 rip. There are some touches of pixealation in some fast moving scenes, but not much really There's also some little "grain" in the video...but from what i read it's a problem of the source (R1s) The Movie is also a R1 rip... ant it's presented in Anamorphic Widescreen.

Extras : The only extras it contains are the Director's Commentary Track (and Subs , thankfully) ...in the last 3 episodes and Movie the 1st 4 DVDs contains 9 episodes each , and the 5th 3 episodes + Movie Note : i didn't see all of the 1st 13 episodes (cause i had already seen it, so i only spot checked it ), but from what i checked they also don't have problems. I didn't noticed any Reading Error / Skipping through the Set, thankfully
