Probably taken from an LD source. However, this doesn't mean it's quality video. The picture is dull and the colors bleed.

It sounds ok. Louder noises distort. Softer ones can't be heard too well. The disc is supposedly 5.1, but I highly doubt this. (It's probably just fake 5.1, so you get that echo effect).

This movie is good, but this DVD is not. Don't try saving a few dollars on the movie and buy this one. Go out and buy the official release. It's the only way you're going to see this movie properly.
Akira itself deserves a 4/5.
