Reviews for Trigun Perfect Collection

Video:

Video quality is well enough. No major stops or pixelation. It was clear even during higher action sequences. However, I was watching it on a smaller sized TV. People with big screens may notice more problems.

Audio:

Once again, the audio is so-so. The Japanese voices sounded louder to me. Really though, it's loud enough that you can hear what they're saying on either track. Of course, you may have to turn it up at times. Other than that, really no problems.

Subtitle:

Now, here's were it all goes downhill. The subs are a problem, and I mean a BIG problem. They are simply terrible. Words are mashed together, lines are missing, and at times are slower than they should be. And they are constantly misspelling Vash's name! You would think that out of all the characters, Vash would be the one they'd get right. But no. At first, it's almost funny to read people yelling "Dash". But that changes after it just keeps getting worse. It's obvious that they didn't put as much time into the production as they should have. In fact, the subs are so bad that you're almost forced to watch it in English. Otherwise, you end up stuck trying to sort out the words, while the the subs move on. The end result is not good.

Comment:

Frankly, this set (for lack of a better word) sucks. Sure, the cover is better than some of the other versions, but it's not worth the money. At least, not if you ever want to watch it in Japanese, assuming you aren't fluent in the language. However, if you are only ever going to watch it in English and have your heart set on this particular cover art, then knock yourself out. But if not, then just get the FX release instead. This one doesn't even have any extras.

This was the second set I ever bought. The last reviewer pretty much summed up everything you need to know regaurding this set. I didnt think the video was as bad as he said, and I didn't get those "glitches" of previous scenes flash on my screen when watching it on my PC (however, I did used to own a Manga Outlaw Star that did just that when we watched it on my friends DVD player, so it may depend on your player).

Comment:

Manga makes some of the best boxes for their sets. However, pass up the pretty box and get the FX set, if you want to avoid the problems this set offers.

This set was the first import I ever bought, I didn't have a review of it, so I shall review it so others can learn about what I did not. The video quality is alright. The animation is crisp during still as well as fast moving action scences. Everything looks so good and very colorful... but then... there is trouble in paradise. Imperfections appear... not to often but they are noticeable (most can be easily overlooked). I noticed some grain during the intro sequence around words and right above Vash's gun while sand swirls around him. There is pixelation in a few episodes... only on dark red. The pixelation isn't that noticeable and it can't be seen when watching this set on the computer. These are little problems, which on the whole aren't a big deal, but the real flaw that this set suffers from is its glitches. These glitches are fragments of images from other scenes that appear on the screen for a second. They appear and leave as if the disc skips and distorts the image, except these glitches are always there, always in the same spot. Luckily these glitches only appear about five times total. Only five seconds worth of watching glitch during the whole 650 minutes of the set isn't much to obsess over. Other than what I have mentioned the video quality was awesome.

Audio:

It's flawless. The audio tracks for both English and Japanese are great. The voices, sounds and music are awesome- clear, well-synched, and unedited. This is a set that I can safely say that I love the English dub. It's hilarious! The emotion of the voices adds a whole other layer of enjoyment to the dub. It's a good thing that the dub is great because...

Subtitle:

... the subs are awful. You can count on every other line to have a problem. There are broken up words ("real ly") and congealed words ("thankyou"). There is the uncommon mispelled word ("GoseP" instead of "Gosef"). Vash's name is sometimes messed up also ("vash the Stampede", "Dash", "dash the Stampede"). You would think that if the translators spelled his name right once that they could go back and figure out how to repeat his name correctly. Occasionally there is a #NAME, this must be where a name was supposed to be because you can hear them say a name in the Japanese dub. The timing can be off, but it is easy to figure out which lines go with which dub. The only thing that redeems the poor quality of the set is that every line is understandable. Never once did I have a line that I flat-out couldn't understand, so word usage was okay, spelling was terrible. The subtitles are WHITE with BLACK borders.

Comment:

Trigun is an great anime. Trigun was the right blend of comedy, drama and action to make it a worth while and enjoyable anime. It follows the adventures of the gunslinger Vash the Stampede, where he is always getting into trouble... If you like animes such as Cowboy Bebop and FLCL, you'll probably enjoy this anime. The packaging is the best part of the set (check the screenshots). It is a graphic gatefold with Vash, Wolfwood, Meryl, B. D. Neon, Legato Bluesummers and Knives. The three discs have beautiful graphics of the Gung-Ho Guns on them. The discs are in these "snaps" that hold the disk securely in place. The menus are pretty generic: "Play", "Setup" and "Scene Access". Then there are menus for the idividual episodes which include "Intro", "Part A", "Part B", "Ending", and "Preview". The theme song H.T is playing in the background which gives it a nice touch. This was my first set, though it may not be the greatest, it's still alright.
