First of all, let me start off this review by informing you, the reader, that I only watched a couple of minutes of the first disc (as it had been posted to have an Eng. language track, but seeing as the box design was that of the Animeigo R1 set, which didn't have one, I was affraid that they may have instead, used the Animeigo design, but with the Robotech version of Macross, which does have an English track. But luckily, it's just a typo on the back of the box, where the disc info is put, which was transfered to the store/review page (but which has most likely been changed as of now, as I emailed the webmaster with the info) so this review "May Not Apply" to the whole set, but I'm relativley confident that it will (so keep this in mind if using this review as a bases for purchasing this set :) Okay, onto the review :) The picture quality is very good, with only a "Slight" grainish pattern preasent, during pans (but the reason that I gave it such a high video rating, even with this, is that I believe this too be residual effects of Animeigo's intensive resteration prosses, and the fact that they found it nessessary to then go back and "Crappy" the picture up a bit, as they stated that once restored, the picture quality was, "Too Good", and didn't look right. So I'm relativley sure, that the slight (and I do mean slight, at least as viewed through an S-Video connection to a year old Panasonic DVD player, and Sears/JVC 27" TV) grain pattern is due to this, as I've yet to see this type of effect in any of my other "Import" anime sets (of which I have quite a nice collection, so I know of which I speak :) Other then that, the colours are very nice (of course, you also have to take into account the source material, when it comes to compairing picture quality, as this is from the mid 80's, meaning that the quality, due to newer developments in animation filming technologies, could never be as good as say, Hellsing, which was made just recently. That said though, the look of Macross is still quite nice :)

The sound was nothing special, being from a mono source.

Comment:
This is a great little set to pick up if you don't already have the Animeigo sets, as they seemed to have pretty much done a straight transfer. The ONLY draw back (if you're into this sort of thing, that is) is that the Animeigo sets all, except one, come with nice little folder shapped, info booklets, which consist of b/w line drawings, and character/mecha info. And another draw back is that this set only has the first 24 of the 36 eps, but if you consider that the first two box sets of the Animeigo R1 sets, are about $65 (Canadian) each, and this set (which combinds the first two, three disc sets on only 3 discs) is selling here at $21 (as of this post :) then you'll definatly be saving some cash. And if the "Part 2" of this collection, should never materialize, then all you'd need to do, to complete the set, would be to purchase the third Animeigo set, which has eps 25-36. Coolness :)
