The quality was good overall, around that of a high quality VHS. There was only a few episodes where I noticed colour bleeding, and then it was only for several seconds. The only little thing I found annoying was that most of the episodes have a opening screen of about 2 seconds with "Buddha Video" on it, I feel this should have been removed (if possible).
Audio:
The audio quality is fine considering the age of these cartoons. As others have already mentioned they are several episodes with audio sync problems, they seemed to range from 0.25-1 seconds, but not enough that it ruined the cartoon. The Chinese audio sounded fine as well.

The only other problem (that doesn't fit in the above catergories) with the set was the menu's, rather simply, they're in Chinese, and I couldn't see a way of changing them to English. Since the menu's aren't very complicated, you can figure out what does what if you play around with it for about 5 minutes. Anyway, as a big fan of the original Tom and Jerry cartoons I found this a great set to watch, even with the small problems I mentioned. It doesn't have all the Tom and Jerry episodes, but it has all the best ones. If you're a fan of the original Tom and Jerry cartoons I recommend getting this set.

The video quality is surprisingly good considering the variety of source material used for this set. There are a few spots that have video drop out associated with aging video tape. What really surprised me is how minor the colour bleed is given the source of the videos. There were only one or two scenes where I could really notice the colour bleed.
Audio:
The biggest problem with the audio is that the early episodes on discs two and three are slightly out of synch with the video. We're talking about 1/10th of a second which isn't bad but can be a little distracting. This problem does correct itself part way through the disc. The other minor problem is a little distortion at times. This is probably going to be found on any copy of this material that is available seeing that most of it is over sixty years old. Don't expect Dolby surround sound with this.

These are all the theatrical Tom and Jerry cartoons presented in order of creation from 1940 through 1958. It doesn't include any of the made for TV episodes that came after that... but all the Oscar winners are here. Given the age of the cartoons (8 of which won Oscars) they are in surprisingly good condition and this is an excellent place to get all of them in spite of the flaws of this set. My biggest fear in purchasing this set, without it having been reviewed yet, was that it would consist of 96 ep?s of the truly heinous, later produced, Hanna Barbara drivel (as you can tell, I am NOT a fan of limited animation, especially on something that was once the cutting edge of animation, as the old MGM Hanna Barbara Tom and Jerry?s were) but, being a fan of the Tom and Jerry cartoons of the 40?s, I decided to bit the built and get it. Well, I think, from what I?ve seen on the first disc (which contains 30 cartoons :) that it was WELL worth the cash :) First, the video quality, it's actually a mixed bag, as each cartoon seems to have come from a different source. But, that said, one should take into consideration that these cartoons were produced in the 40?s, so I?m not complaining. Sure, there is a little colour blur (especially during pans) and a nice ?Videoish? look to the picture, but in retrospect to what I?ve seen on TV, I really can?t complain.
Audio:
The audio too, is a mixed bag of quality, with nothing being all that spectacular, but considering that these were done in mono, and I had them running through a stereo receiver, they were, on the average, listenable :) New note: unfortunatly, I've discovered that disc three of this set has a nice little audio time delay, which is a little bothersome, but tolerable. Newer note: looks like disc 2 has a slight sound delay as well, but the GOOD news is that it's not through out the entire discs, and isn't THAT bothersome (unless you're REALLY picky, as I am... lol)

Great set for the price, especially if like me, you love the old Tom and Jerry cartoons. Note: one small aside though, although I did watch two of the 30 cartoons on the first disc, and found them to be all intact, one of the cartoons that I started to watch had a slight, but noticable cut, which I at first took as being done to crop out the stereo type of the 40's, black house maid, but upon firthur skimming of the disc, found her in several other places. So it looks like this was just a cartoon struck from a bad print (one with a scene cropped out due, probably, to damage of the film). I can't say for sure how wide spread this is throught the set, so keep this in mind when desiding to buy. Note #2: I've now watched about 12 of the first 30 cartoons on disc one, and came across another "Jump Cut", where a bit of the cartoon was missing (probably, as I susspected before, due to the use of an OLD print of these particular cartoons, that have suffered damage, and had the damaged part cut out, and the good parts tapped back together, thus creating a missing bit of the cratoon) It wasn't anything big, but it was a bit distracting, but still, worth buying, as this is the only way to see these classic toons (so what if the odd one has a couple of seconds missing, or the sound is off slightly on some off on some of them, this is still worth the cash :)
