I Got the series to find out what the deal was with Onegai Teacher. To my surprise it is one of the best romantic comedies I have seen in a while. The music is excellent and the opening theme from KOTOKO fits the series so well. Highly recomended.

This is probably the best picture ive seen in any HK dvd not only is the art good but the picture is perfect quality lines are crisp and colors are very vibrant. And there are NO visual errors through out this entire dvd.
Audio:
Sound is really good just sometimes it will get sorta low and you can't hear what the characters are saying but its nothing big not like the GITS movie dvd.

Probably the best HK dvd I own if only all HK was made like this there would be no use for R1s well except to make more HK. The menu is also the best menu Ive seen for an anime lots of effects and extras.

Great quality video. Crisp video with little to no pixelation.

Audio is perfect. The Japanese voices are great. But the English voice actors are just as good. Probably one of my favorite English dubs.

This is my favorite love story thus far. This anime is also the best drawn I have ever seen. I originally watched it in English and was blown away. The voice acting is just amazing. The story pulls you in and your there till the ride is over. Absolutely amazing.

Beautiful colors and superb quality. Almost would have been a perfect score, but I noticed the video blur out for a few minutes in one of the middle episodes. Regardless, it is really good quality. I didn't notice any pixelation.
Audio:
No problems with the japanese track. However, the english dub is terrible. It was so bad that it made me laugh out loud.

The video was really good, crisp and clear. There was no pixelation at all that I noticed. No faded colors or anything like that.
Audio:
The audio was perfect. There was nothing at all wrong with it. I only watched the dub so far, but it was great. I had absolutely no problem with the audio, but I did have a problem with the voice actors. For the most part, they were great, but the voice actress for Koishi wasn't all that great in my opinion. Also, for the last 2 episodes, they got a new voice actress to do the voice of Kaede. I'm not really sure why, but she didn't do as good of a job as Melissa Fahn.

I'm not really sure why, but she didn't do as good of a job as Melissa Fahn. Subtitle: 5 out of 5. So far, I have only watched Onegai Teacher dubbed. When I watch it subbed, I'll update my review. But, since it is a rip of the Region 1 DVDs, I'm almost positive that the subs are perfect. The first disc had 2 sets of subtitles. 1 was the subtitles to the show and the other was just the subtitles to the opening and closing themes. For some reason, the second disc didn't have the 2nd set of subtitles, but that doesn't matter. Extras: The first disc has a couple of Japanese TV promos for the show. The second disc has a clean, textless version of the opening. Content: 4.5 out of 5. Onegai Teacher was a really good anime. There were some parts that I didn't like, but for the most part, it was really good. The last episode is especially funny. All in all, Onegai Teacher is a really good anime. It has comedy, romance, and a little bit of drama. I recommend it.

Great set to own. When I played it in a laptop, I couldn't press the play button in the menu for the first disk. Second disk worked fine. This is a fun show to watch if you like romantic comedies.

Very sharp and clear. The vivid colors stick out and make it an amazing anime to watch. No pixilatiion or other image problem.Watching it both on a 15" monitor and 51" Flat big screen, there wasn't any noticeable difference in quality. They are perfect R1 rips and include some of the R1 features such as the chalkboard menu and the trailer 3-25-04: For some reason, when I got back to watching the series again for a second time on my dvd player, it would make a funny sound and the menu would come too choppy, so I couldn't watch it (it's a similar problem to the first review). My dvd rom didn't have that problem (and 98% of the review is based from viewing in my dvd-rom drive) My standalone dvd player is a Pioneer DV 500 made in 1997, and it isn't the greatest (can't even play a burned music cd or vcd)
Audio:
Very crisp. Sound for the japanese as well as english audio comes out balanced.

A combination of Tenchi Muyo, Ah! My Goddess and Hand Maid May (Note: The japanese actress for the teacher Mizuho was actually in Ah! My Goddess (Belldandy) and Hand Maid May(CBD Mami-San)) It is the story of a young boy named Kei who just witnessed an alien land at the local lake and the next day finds out she is his new teacher. After certain events force kei to marry his teacher (Mizuho) he must learn to deal with being a husband and keeping his school life and friends (who don't know about the marriage) in check and Mizuho must learn to deal with her new life on earth and living with a human. It is definitely an excellent dvd, especially if you liked Ah! My Goddess. It has a lot of light-hearted comedy moments, but more romantic type elements are prominent up towards episode 12. It has a little bit of ecchi moments too (but a lot less in comparison to Hand Maid May or Tenchi for that matter) As mentioned the OVA (13) has more than what qualifies for "ecchi" but not enough for " hentai", talking more aobut sexual deeds than romance and teenage love drama that was in the first 12. Not to say its bad, but it does throw the feeling of the show off. (Just like the Love Hina OVA, Love Hina Again, which was more perverted than the tv series and had a really crappy storyline. The bonus Love Hina 25th episode as mentioned by the first reviewer also fits, though it really didn't have the pervertedness of LHA and still kept the feeling of the tv series) If you're looking for a good romantic comedy, then this is an excellent choice, but don't want to spends hundreds for the offical us release version, then this FX version will satisfy it. It may not all the bonus features in the R1 release, but if you care more for the series than some trailers and sketches, than this set is what you need.

(When there is a reference to screenshots, read numbers in rows in the screenshots section, i.e. left to right) After some initial problems* I watched the series using a Microsoft Xbox, RGB connection and a 36-inch Hitachi flat-widescreen television. NOTE: I later performed some tests on my own preferred set-up (Pioneer DV636, RGB video-only connection, 28-inch Hitachi flat-widescreen and Sony Dolby ProLogic amp) to balance my overall impressions. I?ll list what I noticed after the Xbox results. I will also give my reasons for the Video score. Disc 1 contains 4 episodes and with one exception regarding the extras (See: Comment) must mirror the R1 Volume 1 DVD. The show itself had some high production values, which resulted in an excellent R1 DVD judging by this rip. Animation is smooth and crisp. Colours are gorgeous ? rich and vibrant ? particularly on the characters, but there are also numerous still life scenes, e.g. sunsets, that also look really nice. Even on an Xbox. Naturally, it looks stunning on a better set-up since there is the added bonus of pin-sharp clarity. Disc 2, as you might have guessed, contains the remaining episodes: all nine of them (I believe Episode 13 is in fact an OVA ? the art is different and it?s a lot more raunchy). Colours are still nice, but all the episodes (with the exception of two for some reason) have some very noticeable video problems (REMEMBER: I?m watching on an Xbox). Basically whenever there is animation there is the appearance of shimmering horizontal lines. I?m not sure of the technical term (aliasing?), but it looks like the characters/objects are about to teleport Star Trek-style whenever they move. In Episode 12, I also noticed there was heavy pixelisation/macro-blocking on a character when the ?camera? simply panned across her body. At one point in Disc 2 (Episode 9 or 10) the screen froze and the Xbox crashed ? DVD controls would not work. After ejecting and starting again, that particular scene played through with no problems. On my Pioneer there is no ?teleportation? effects as on the Xbox, but rather pixelisation during movement. I guess if you sat way back from the TV you might not notice it, but it?s there. One thing I did notice ? perhaps due to my Pioneer having ?Scan? rather than proper fwd/rwd controls ? the picture would sometimes get ?blocky? during a forward search. Things would return to normal during playback. This did not happen on the Xbox, which, annoyingly, has better fwd/rwd controls. If I only had an Xbox to watch this series on I don?t think it would score higher than 3 (even though Disc 1 is great), but watching on a decent DVD player I don?t think the experience would have been as bad. Testing on a DVD-ROM, there were no problems such as the Xbox experienced, but I find it hard to make any firm conclusions watching on my monitor. Your judgement of the video quality will depend entirely on your DVD playback facilities. I?m giving it the benefit of the doubt as well as an extra ½ mark. *I was going to watch this on a multi-region Toshiba SD 2100 standalone player. However, on loading, the title menu was ?blocky?; the setup menu took around six attempts to load; and playback was also blocky. After ejecting and starting again, the disc would not even load. I had no such problems on the Xbox, Pioneer or DVD-ROM.
Audio:
I listened to the Japanese track, which was clear and without any distortion. If you have a Dolby 2.0 set-up, dialogue is focused on the centre speaker. There are a number of effects played through the rear speakers, e.g. the spaceship in the Episode 1 Prologue. I spot-checked the English track and from what I heard it seemed just as clear as the Japanese. However, as I said, I did not watch the series in English. On a personal note, I thought the music throughout the series was really nice.

Comment:
Packaging is as shown in the Synopsis picture ? the FX logo is clearly marked on the back and a frosted plastic slipcase is supplied. There is artwork underneath each plastic discholder, which is repeated on the discs. Menus are, I assume, ripped from the R1 set and are clear and easy to navigate. (See screenshots 1, 2 and 3) Scene Select menu is also easy to navigate and presented with small, animated ?scenes? of each chapter. Episodes are divided in to Prologue/Opening/Part A/Part B/Closing/Preview. (See screenshot 4) As noted in the Video section there is a discrepancy in the Extras section. Basically, you don?t get all the extras as featured in the R1. You get two short promos on Disc 1 and a textless opening on Disc 2. This means that the music videos and the design galleries, which are supposed to be really nice, are not included. Final comment: Video is going to be the determining factor with this set. I feel that everything else - audio and subs - is up to scratch rip-wise although the extras that were included were nothing to shout about. Series comment: Despite the premise ? alien teacher turns up and school and marries student ? Onegai Teacher isn?t all out comedy. There are comic moments and one or two ecchi gags, but it?s primarily about relationships. Despite thinking that the early episodes were a bit light, several of the later episodes are really well done and are quite touching. Episode 13 is not really part of the storyline and operates a bit like Love Hina 25 and the last episode El Hazard Alternative World in that it?s an excuse for things to hot up a little! I?m not going to give Onegai Teacher a ?must have? recommendation, but it?s a nice little series and there is a second helping on the way.
