I have heard complaints about the video quality of this release before. There is nothing to complain about the quality anywhere on this disc (I didn't watch the trailers as a previous reviewer did so they may have problems). This is an exact copy of the Manga R1 release without any compression of the main title. The part that people complain about is that the image appears to be washed out. This is because the director wanted to simulate the feeling of some classic Japanese movies that were filmed with gauze over the lens. He has accomplished this look with amazing success.
Audio:
This is a perfect copy of the Manga R1 release. The quality of sound is exactly what you would expect if you bought this in your local mall. The dolby 2.0 and 5.1 surround are both there in English and Japanese.

Comment:
This is a very styalized approach to a classic Japanese story. If you are familiar with the characters and situation then you will enjoy this short movie much more than a casual viewer. There are a lot of points to this movie that expect the viewer to already know what is being talked about. If you are into viewing esoteric and experimental movies then you should add this one to your list. If you want an easy view of some classical Japanese characters then pick up Kenshin (a true watermark for anime) or Zatoichi (yeah.... go down to the bottom of the store section and try one of the live action titles). All of the extras from the Manga R1 release have been left intact on this copy and are fully subtitled.

The video itself is very refreshingly different with the mildly faded pastel colors. The story is very dry. If not for the unique video format this story would be lost among other titles.

I would say rent this film first before you buy it. If you are a straight Dragon Ball type person you will not like this title. This title is more appealing to people who liked Series Experiment Lain

At first I thought the video was really fuzzy or blurry but then I realized everything was done in pastel colors. When considering what the people with this anime's color sheme I guess I would say it was interesting. I think I would have prefered the traditional color sheme but I guess the creator wanted to try something different. When criticing this video I looked past the colors and at the video itself. This film is done very well but the computer animation looks a little bland exept for some forest scenes. I generally enjoyed the video's originality but many time I tried to adjust my eyes to no avail. Overall, Good stuff.

I have no complaint about the audio for this film. I'm asuuming that it's done with R1 quality. The sound did not fail me in the least. I personally listen only to the japanese dialogue but I watched this with my girlfriend so I used the english dubb. The english dubb was alright. Anyway, The audio is top notch. Good stuff

I personally did not like this film. The story was short and it left me with many questions as to what just happened and who is who and why is this happening. Also the color made it blurry to my eyes so cofusion was a little higher that normal. They should of doe this film with the origianl scheme they used and then had a special feature of the film using the traditional color scheme. Overall I liked the orignality of the film but everything did not impress me. The only thing I really liked was the computer animation of the forest with the light source from above, maybe dawnish or duskish light souce. Story was poor, Had potential to be better. Recommended for viewing at friends house not for buying.

The movie itself being about 45 minutes long, no compression was needed so everything looks as good as the R1. However I'm not deducting much points for this, but in the extra features watching the trailers the video is jerky and even skips.
Audio:
Perfect I watched both versions and both sound fantastic.

The animation was top notch, the 3D backgrounds and beautiful character designs mesh well together. My only complaint is that it was not long enough, Like Blood(another IG project) it was too short, and I wish they had done more. Extras include Director commentary, 3D backgrounds, and Manga trailers.
