Reviews for Pia Carrot E Youkoso the movie - Sayaka's Love Story
Video:

Subtitles:

Overall:

Video:

Video is clear (R2 rip) with no noticable defects. I watched this DVD on my computer's DVD drive, so actual performance may vary. Movie is in anamorphic widescreen (though the back cover states otherwise).

Audio:

I only have 2 speakers for my setup, but the sound came very clear and in stereo.

Subtitle:

The subs are HK originals, but rather understandable ones at that. The names are wrong (as per the previous review), no punctuation was used, one scene has incorrect currency (in dollars instead of yen, at a rate of $1 = ¥1) and some of what was displayed was rather stilted grammar, but otherwise, no misspellings, and the timing was dead-on. Subs were yellow, Times New Roman.

Comment:

Menu -- in Japanese only. Four entries: Play Movie, Scenes (6 chapters), Extras and Subtitles. Music accompanied all menus except the subtitle menu (which is the only thing in English, with options for English and Chinese subs). Cover -- No one submitted a cover for this DVD, but it looks something like the one in this entry: http://www.import-anime.com/index.php?page=view&item_id=3564 The back cover has some scenes from the film, and a Japanese description. Story: I find the film to be rather pedestrian -- a story about a restaurant trying to get business while competing with street vendors, along with an unrequited love of one of its employees. Nothing rather eventful or mind-blowing, though it does have some fan service scenes. No nudity -- not even hentai (which is what the OAVs of Pia Carrot are). You don't need to play the game or see the hentai OAVs to enjoy this film, but it helps. Not a great film, but an effective time-killer.

This is a R2 DVD rip. There is some fuziness in some scene and the lighting is too bright at some place (especially in the flashback scenes) but otherwise, the video is high quality

Audio:

No complaint, clean sound on my 29 inch Sony Vega

Subtitle:

I can't believe they messed up and mispelled many name in this anime. Here's some example: Wrong (or mispelled) name=Right name Takarai Sayeka = Takai Sayaka Jun = Akemi Shaggie = Natsuki (This has to be the worst translated name i've ever seen, I mean Shaggie) Keiko = Takako Keiko = Noriko Huyumi (Miharu) = Fuyuki Shin = Noboru Mongyei = Akiko Gunchin = Yuichi The rest of this anime is excellent, only 2 mispelled word. The subtiming is perfect, the translation from Japanese to English is very good but it has a few flaws. Hai (yes) is translated to Yah, wrong character name at one place (instead of Tomomi, it's Miharu), one word missing at a couple of phrase and the ponctuation is missing at some lines

Comment:

This anime is not for everybody. To fully understand every aspect of the movie, you must play Pia Carrot 3, the PC game. I'm a huge fan of the Pia Carrot and I have all 3 games of the series (Sorry, it's only in Japanese). Most of the storyline of the female character is exactly like the PC3 game. The only difference in the storyline of the PC movie is, in the PC3 game, it's Akiko who is sent to the 4th restaurant and not Sayaka (She joins Akiko later in the game). They added a new character that wasn't in PC3, her name is Miyuki, the orange haired girl. Two characters are missing from the movie is Shiho (Akiko sister) and Satomi (the manager of the first Pia Carrot restaurant). The movie is rather short at 48 minutes but it covers 1/4 of the PC game. If you're a Pia Carrot fan, get it now and if you're not, don't bother if you haven't played the PC game, Pia Carrot 3.
