Overall:
Video:
For a 1993 production, I'm more than happy with the video quality. Basketball action is smooth.
Audio:
Loud and clear.
Subtitle:
Surprise to find no chinese sub but English sub is decent.
Comment:
Highly addictive. You'll learn to love Sakuragi Hanamichi for his detest towards Rukawa, his fearless for Gorilla(Akagi), and his infatuation for Haruko ;-).

Video:
The video for the series is not bad. It is definitely not a TV or VHS rip. It could be a LD or DVD rip, but it's hard to tell since the series is kinda old and the animation wasn't cutting edge to begin with. It does have some graininess to it. But overall, it's not bad at all.
Audio:
The only audio present is a 2.0 Japanese track. I listened to it on my TV and didn't notice anything wrong with the audio.

It's hard to try and rate these subs. For the 1st 13 episodes, the subs were great. They were almost R1 quality subs. But then episode 14 was pretty bad. Lots of Engrish in there. Episode 15 was kinda bad too. After that, the subs started to improve again, but were still not as good as the 1st half of the series. So I would give the subs a 5 for the 1st 13 episodes. Espisodes 14 and 15 get a 2.5 and then I'd give the 2nd half of the series a 4.
Comment:
If you like comedy, you should definitely pick up this set. The facial expressions of the main character are hilarious. They remininded me of Kintaro Oe from GoldenBoy at times. The worst part of the series is when they do finally play a basketball game, it takes them 6 episodes to complete it. But everything else going on when they're not playing in an actual game is hilarious. I can't wait until they put out the next boxset.
