i own the R-1 version of heroic knight i bought it when it first came for a 129.99 now if you could only imagine how i feel at this moment.. now after seeing this set online at various places i had my doubts but i took the chance and bought this version instead just for the OVA. picture is PERFECT on these i see no difference between the R-1 heroic knight set and this one. this set is a steal at what it costs.. the people who maid this set did a superb job on the artwork and on the disc them selves!!
Audio:
i listened to them both they are clearly the R-1 dubs and japanese audio is PERFECT no problems what so ever!! i prefer to listen to the original audio while the dub is ok it sounds a bit childish at times and leaves a lot of the story out...

this dvd set is awesome!!! i highly recommend it to anyone on a budget who's looking to buy this series or looking for something like RPG anime!! i only recommend watching the DUB if you want the toned version if your into that sorta thing but if you want the real scoop on the story stick with the original audio/jap with english subtitles to really enjoy this great show!! all i can say is get this collection ASAP!!

This is very clearly an R1 rip of the series. The credits alternate between English and Japanese after each episode throughout the set. My friend reported a lot of macroblocking late on the 1st disc of this set but I was unable to get any macroblocking at all with my set up. He has a nice Sony DVD player while I have a nice Panasonic DVD player. I also was unable to get the macroblocking to show through my computer. I'm not going to mark this down because of how it performed on one system compared to two other systems that worked perfectly. I just thought people might like to know about this.
Audio:
The audio is two channel stereo in both the English and the Japanese dubs. Once again, these are ripped from the R1 version and very nice quality. The audio levels are even throughout all five discs without any odd noises or quirks. The voice acting for the English dubs is better for the TV series than it is for the OVAs (which is sad because the OVAs last more than twice as long as the TV series). I recommend watching this series in the original Japanese language with subtitles unless you have serious issues with reading subtitles.

Comment:
The TV show has lots of chapters which makes it easy to skip past the intro and into the middle of the story. I wish more TV series would have this many break points. The OVAs have one chapter point at the beginning of each episode before the opening credits and a second chapter point just before the super deformed sillyness starts. This series is a lot like watching someone else play Dungeons and Dragons. If you want a high fantasy TV series with fighters, clerics, magic users, elves, and the like then I suggest you check out this story. The OVAs feel like a repeat of the TV series at times because the characters are on the same quest against the same dragons and villains as they were the first time around. Just to make a point of it being a continuation, they allow the impetuous young fighter from the first series show up as a veteran warrior to impress the impetuous young fighter from the second series. The challenges are a bit different and the artwork has changed a bit but you still have the same quest type story line with a war brewing around the characters.
