The first episode is awesome, the quality is perfect. The rest of the series looks like it was taken from VHS or broadcast. Its still good, and really the only reason you notice that it doesn't look perfect is because the first episode looks so kickass.

This series rocks. Basically its present day Japan, but these aliens have appeared and are trying to destroy the continent. The army begins to draft high school age kids to fight, some are mech pilots, some are support, and some are used to activate these insanely cool looking bombs that destroy the "boss" aliens. The story revolves around a class of kids who make up a sqaudron. Because it's only 12 episodes, the series doesn't really touch too much on where the aliens came from, what their purpose is, etc. Its more about the the relationships between the characters, although there is a fair amount of ass kicking being dealt out to the aliens in the meantime. The art is freakin incredible, everything from the characters to the mechs looks awesome and has a great style. I ordered this on a whim just because I had the PSX game and remembered the art was really cool, and it didn't disappoint. It reminds me quite a bit of Gundam 08th MS Team in that none of the characters are super human, they're all just people trying to do their jobs, which makes it totally easy to relate to them. You get much more attached to people you can identify with, so even though it was only 12 episodes I still felt grief whenever a character would die or something bad would happen. They also throw in enough comedy to lighten the mood, since without the comedy this would be a really dark story of what happens when young people are forced to fight and die. I highly recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of Evangelion, Rahxephon, Gundam, etc. Its over way too soon, but I was satisfied with the ending.
