Video:
Great video. Almost as good as some of FX's top quality releases which actually have less episodes per DVD (i.e. FLCL, Inu Yasha). Really impressed in this department. Didn't really notice much in the way of pixelation.
Audio:
Same as video. Great job on the transfer of this show... though, I wish I could say the same about the next category. This series has a great soundtrack by the goddess Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, anyone?). This set is worth picking up for the audio alone, to be quite honest.
Subtitle:
B-R-Utal. Yes, that's a capital B, R, -and- U. The first dvd isn't bad... but by the time you get to the 2nd and 3rd dvd, you'll probably have to rewind from time to time to read something over again. The subs flash up so quickly sometimes, that you don't have time to decypher the engrish before it's on to the next horrible sub. Wish I would've waited for the R1 source rip...
Comment:
Unfortunately.. if you can't stand bad subtitles... don't pick up this set. I wish I could recommend it on the soundtrack, and beautiful animation alone... but I can't. I wish I'd have waited for a set that was based off the R1 releases forthcoming. Oh well.. live and learn. ;)

1rst, 2nd and 3rd DVD: 4/5: Pretty good VHS rip (except episode 17 who has a vertical line on the side of the screen). Pixellated and grainy on some fighting scene especially on the 1rst DVD where Tsume attacks a train and Kiba fighting Tsume's followers. Wolf's Rain is pretty recent (made in 2003) so the graphic are pretty good especially the designs of the building and the fight scene between wolves and human (pretty cool to see) Compared to the 1rst DVD, there are no preview on the 2nd and 3rd DVD
Audio:
No problem detected, I don't know if it's a first in Japanese anime but both opening and ending song are in English only. Steve Conte sings the opening "Stray", one of my favorite song to date and Saaya Sakamoto sings "Gravity", the ending song. The opening Stray ROCKS big time
Subtitle:
1rst DVD: 4,5/5 Fansubs quality, instead of putting the japanese name's of the character on the subline, they translated the name into English like this Kiba = Wolf's fangs Tsume = Wolf's claw Hige = Wolf's whiskers Toboe = Wolf's howl Don't know why they did that, but the name was easy to understand The translation from Japanese to English is excellent, a few phrase where not translated properly and some were missing a word. A few mispelled word like Maybe=Mabye and the syntax/ponctuation was great 2nd DVD: 3/5 What the hell happened ??? They changed the fansubs into something worse. Almost all of the character's names and building/city names are wrong (except for 2) Here's a list of wrong names (Right name = Wrong name) Kiba = Nangya Toboe = Lanho Hige = Lanhu Tsume = Lanco Cher = Shier Miyu = Miew Cheza = Xuesan Dalaxia = Daxia Jagara = Jila The opening song subline was different than the 1rst DVD, it's like they translated the english song to Japanese then they re-translated it to English (for example, stray becomes wandering). This also applies for the ending song also. The translation from Japanese to english is not very good compared to the 1rst DVD, most of the phrase are not translated properly but they made it understandable, one word was missing in many phrases. Mispelled words, bad grammar, bad usage of verb like "I" instead of "You" ect.. Overall, very weak sub 3rd DVD: 3,25/5: Same as the 2nd DVD but the translation is a little better, the names are still wrong and the op/ending subline are still like the 2nd DVD. Overall, why didn't they use the same quality fansubs for the 1rst DVD for the other two DVD, pretty disappointing.
Comment:
I thought that Wolf's Rain was quite good. Seeing Kiba, Tsume, Toboe and Hige metarmorphing (transforming) from wolves to human was a way cool idea for a storyline. I'm a sucker for these kind of anime. The only complaint I got in Wolf's Rain is that they put 4 recap episodes IN A ROW. That's right, Episode 15 to 18 are recap of the first 14 episodes. They could have made a recap of one episode only instead of 4, what a waste of episodes. The storyline was quite good, 4 wolves tries to find the promised land (a.k.a paradise) however, they don't know if it's really paradise or hell itself. Since they don't know where it is, they relies on Cheza, a little girl who's considered to be the "Daughter of the flowers" (her scent attracs the wolfes) to guide them. In their journey, many peoples tries to stop them to reach their goal especially the Jagara group who swore to eliminate every wolf that exist in Japan. They say that the wolves is a threat to mankind. Jagara are also looking for paradise but for their own purposes but in order to open the gate to paradise, they need Cheza to complete the ceremony. Many wolves failed to reach Paradise but Kiba, Toboe, Hige and Tsume are determines to reach the unreachable and the unseen. They protect Cheza with their life from the Jagara and everybody else because without her, they can't go to the promised land.Everybody thought that the wolves dissapeared for good about 200 years ago but a few of them are still lurking in the shadows to find a better way of life. The fighting sequence was awseome to see, wolves against humans, some of them were really bloody and we see clearly the wolf's fangs planted in a man's neck. Not pretty to see. Kiba fighting the balle android was probably the best fight sequence of the anime, especially when Kiba was running upward on the mountain to dodge the machine gun of the battle droid. The character's are pretty interesting to follow especially Cher, a scientist that was conducting research on Cheza. Her story is a little sad, the way she separated with Habu because she wanted to devoted her life thought research. She left him one day without telling no one of her wherebout. After Chize was kidnapped by Dalaxia, she saw wolves running throught the tundra. She doesn't her eyes at first so she follows them in order to find more about them and maybe try to find a new meaning to her life. Kiba, Toboe, Hige and Tsume character's are explained in the recap episode (Episode 15-18) but everybody had a interesting storyline to follow. The ending was great. I never saw it coming, NEVER. The last 2 episodes were truly unpredictable it's one was one best ending i've seen in a while. Just seeing it is worth buying Wolf's Rain Overall, Wolf's Rain was quite a interesting show but the weak subs kills most of the fun in watching it. I recommanded it BUT NOT THE MI VERSION,get the fansub version or wait for the R1 release of it. Give it a try, you might liked it. Extras: 1rst DVD - Textless opening and ending song 2nd and 3rd DVD - None Packaging: A flowery scene in the background. On the left side, a picture of a wolf. On the right from up to down: Kiba, Toboe, Hige, Tsume and Cheza. All 3 DVD's are DVD9

the subs for the first two episodes were quite bad(total engrish), but after that, they get way better with only few missing lines and some grammar errors.
Comment:

The subs were good, though they had some grammar problems as in some sentences it should of been written She instead of He sometimes. Also the Characters name aren't subbed the right way. Kiba - Nangya Tsume - Lanco Toboe - Lanho That's how their name are written through out the series exept for Episode 5-6 and 7. where Kiba is now translated for Wolf's Teeth and Tsume is Wolf's Claw. Despite these you can make it out pretty much sicne theose are jsut names and when they speak you can hear it clearly. There were a few missing lines and few lines where the grammar was totally wrong so I didn't get the phrase until viewing it many times. But those happened only 2 or 3 times through out the series. Overall if you know your basic japanese you'll be actually very find with this set and subs
Comment:
I bought this since I've only seent eh first episodes and it caught my interest, the first 14 episodes are the best to my knowledge, after that there's you could say less action. I know for the last 4 episodes on DISC 2 those are merely resumes of what happaned so far in the story with each character's perspective on it. The story mainly is about 1 wolf, Kiba, who travels to find the so called Paradise but along the way he find 3 other wolves, which with one he doesn't like much in the beginning. Then they follow a lower of the Moon wihich happened to be a young human girl but was made with flowers. And all wolves will protect her at any cost sicne the people who create her want her back. Plus it's a time where humans think wolves are extinct for now 200 eyars. They have a certain gift to look like human to disguise themselves throughout the crowds and move easier. Amoung all Wolves Kiba remains the one where you see him fight more, then it's Tsume. As for Toboe, he's the one scared of everything at fiers but later on soemthing changes. This series if for those that like some adventure, with an intriguing plot, but be careful this isn't an all action series, actually you see not much action and the wolves in action, which kinda disappointed me sicne I thought I'd see the wolves much more than this. But it does have an intriguing plot all the way and how the characters get to actually like and care for each other.
